Boston-bound plane vanishes with 6 on board; Coast Guard launches search off Nantucket coast

Fox News - Sat, 10/03/2026 - 14:59

The U.S. Coast Guard is looking for a plane with six people on board that disappeared Saturday morning while en route to Boston from Bermuda.

Authorities are searching for the Gulfstream G100, a twin-engine, mid-size jet, off the coast of Nantucket. Both air and surface crews have been deployed to the area, according to the Coast Guard Northeast District.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported losing contact with the aircraft early Saturday, the Coast Guard said.

According to data from FlightAware, the plane took off from Bermuda L.F. Wade International Airport at 11:41 p.m. ET. The FAA told Fox News Digital it issued a Search and Rescue Alert Notice at about 1:20 a.m. ET.

The Canadian-registered aircraft is owned by Latitude Air Ambulance, according to records from the Official Canadian Civil Aircraft Register database reviewed by Fox News Digital.

Latitude Air Ambulance is a medical transport company that brings patients home from around the world when they require specialized care. The company did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

The National Transportation Safety Board told Fox News Digital that it is currently gathering information and declined to provide an update on the situation.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

Media sinks to new low by digging up tweets that got announcer fired by cowardly Blazers

Fox News - Sat, 10/03/2026 - 14:36

There are three characters in this case: a victim, a coward and a villain.

The victim is broadcaster Braiden Bell, who was the Portland Trail Blazers play-by-play announcer for less than 12 hours before the team fired him Thursday for tweets he posted in 2012 and 2013… when he was 15 years old.

The coward is the Blazers, who were informed of said tweets and ousted Bell immediately, presumably out of fear of the ever-ravenous outrage mob.

NBA'S PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS HIRE ANNOUNCER, THEN FIRE HIM HOURS LATER OVER TWEETS FROM HIS TEENAGE YEARS

And then there's the villain: KGW in Portland, the TV station that dug up those tweets and used them to try and ruin a man's life.

Let's start with the ugly part — the tweets themselves. They are certainly nothing to condone, and are the kind of posts that should have given any of Bell's teenage friends pause at the time.

The first was from November 2012, when Bell wrote, "Gotta give a shoutout to all the big girls out there and those closet w----s #BigUps."

The next was less than a month later, when Bell tweeted, "I'm not racist at all...But not gonna lie...Asian people piss me off! Hahaha #Honest"

The third was from February 2013, when Bell tweeted, "We got a sl-t alert on aisle 10." And the final tweet KGW reported came less than two weeks later, when Bell typed "Girls these nights...Smh #ThirstyForTheD."

Again, these are a long way from pleasant. And if Bell was shamed by peers for his words at the time, it would have been justified. But I think most of us who saw this story were thankful that our stupidest or most offensive comments as adolescents weren't broadcast to the world. As Jason Whitlock said on X: "Virtually everything that came out of my mouth at 15 was a fireable offense. Amazing, sad story."

CRAIG CARTON CALLS OUT CANCEL CULTURE AFTER PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS CUT TIES WITH NEWLY HIRED ANNOUNCER

There is a reason we do not let 15-year-olds drive independently. Just as there's a reason they have to wait three years before voting. Their minds aren't fully developed. Their mouths are dormant volcanoes. To hold adults forever responsible for their words — not actions — as teenagers is an exercise in cruelty.

And that's just what the KGW reporting team was on this story — cruel.

Exactly what public good does unearthing these tweets and reporting them to the Blazers accomplish? How does dragging this man's name just after he landed his dream job serve the greater Portland community?

America's confidence in the media is hovering at an all-time low. Stories like this only amplify that distrust...and it appears the KGW team knows this.

Before Friday, Devon Haskins — the lead reporter on this story — had his email address displayed on his X account. It has since been scrubbed and his DMs are closed. KGW news director John Tierney, whose byline was included on the report, also removed his email address after this story blew up. A third reporter, Alma McCarty, closed off her X inbox, too, while Jared Cowley, the final byline on the story, has no public contact info, either.

These are not the actions of media members standing firm on a story they believe in amid public backlash. These are the actions of cowards who know they erred and are running for cover. Embarrassing.

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON'T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

But not as embarrassing as the Blazers firing Bell the same day they hired him.

I've seen some critics of the team say their PR leaders fell short by not doing their due diligence on Bell. But according to KGW's reporting, Bell had over 30,000 tweets, and not one since February 2013 could be construed as offensive. Is it really a PR failure to not sift through 14 years of social media posts? It's not like Bell came out of nowhere. He was already calling games for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and G League's Valley Suns, and there didn't seem to be any indications he held racist or misogynistic views.

Former Arizona Republic sports columnist Paola Boivin posted on X, "Braiden's tweets at 15 do not reflect the person I know. I'm a big believer in not letting a poor decision or short timespan define a person's body of life work. I used to be more righteous. As I matured, I learned that decisions in youth are often driven by bravado or surroundings."

If only the Blazers — who just traded for Ja Morant, a player who was suspended 25 games for flashing a gun on an Instagram Live broadcast — were as empathetic.

The truth is, the public is generally forgiving. Remember when comedian Shane Gillis was fired from "Saturday Night Live" after it was discovered he used the Asian slur "c---k" on a podcast? He's now selling out stadiums and has hosted SNL twice. Kevin Hart, meanwhile, was fired as the 2018 Oscars host for a an unearthed homophobic comment. He has since hosted the Roast of Tom Brady and makes $20 million per movie. And the gaffes by those two came when they were grown men, not three years into puberty. One sincere apology from Bell and Blazers fans would have moved on.

I suppose the big takeaway from this is to understand that the internet is forever and will come back to haunt you if you're not careful. Doesn't matter how old your posts were or how much you've matured since. There are always vultures circling, and always cowards caving.

Why Alabama should cover against Mississippi State in a college football Week 5 prediction

Fox News - Sat, 10/03/2026 - 14:34

Week 5 is here for college football, and Week 4 finally brought me a winning week in the sport. I’m hoping to build off that momentum and keep rolling. We’ve got some great games ahead of us this week, and the schedule is built for a full day of football watching. My first game starts early in the day as Alabama takes on Mississippi State.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are 4-0, but something feels like this team isn’t quite as impressive as past years. They haven’t won a National Championship since the 2020 season. Since Nick Saban has left, they are 24-8, including this year’s 4-0 start. Certainly things have gotten more difficult for all teams, but Alabama’s success is slipping away as they continue to search for a new identity under Ken DeBoer.

PAUL FINEBAUM’S PROCLAMATION ABOUT ALABAMA COACH KALEN DEBOER REIGNITES COLLEGE FOOTBALL ‘CULTURE FIT’ DEBATE

So far, the team is ranked 7th in the nation, but they face a tough schedule ahead. This is the first of four games against ranked opponents in five weeks. This could be a trap week as well because they have Georgia at home next week, always one of the toughest teams in the country, and one of the toughest games on their schedule each season. Keelon Russell, the team’s quarterback, has looked solid in the past two games, throwing for seven touchdown passes and 685 yards. If he can be a difference-maker at the position, I expect Alabama to make a real run at the National Championship.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 4-0 and currently the 16th ranked team in the country. They haven’t had an especially difficult schedule to start the season, but they did have a challenge last week as they beat Missouri. It was probably best for them that they were hosting the game, but even as the home team, it feels like Mississippi State is a tier below the top College Football Playoff teams.

They are led by a Heisman hopeful in Kamario Taylor. He is currently 10th in yards at 1,192, 1st in touchdowns at 14, and 9th in QBR at 87.1. He has thrown an interception in the past two games, and really hasn’t been as effective on the ground as he was in the first two games. A win here would be big for his Heisman resume, and for Mississippi State pushing for a chance to get into the College Football Playoffs.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, I don’t feel like they are ready to get there, and I don’t think they’ll win this game. Alabama should win this one without much of an issue. The line has already moved higher and in favor of Alabama. I wouldn’t take this at anything higher than -7, but I do think the Crimson Tide should cover it against a good, but not quite great Mississippi State team. Give me Alabama.

Florida Gators face Missouri Tigers in college football matchup where the over looks like the play

Fox News - Sat, 10/03/2026 - 14:32

The best thing about sports is that we don’t ever really know what will happen. The worst thing about sports betting is that we don’t ever know what will happen. It is a challenge, but also fun, to try and predict what will happen in games. Last week, I didn’t play the game between Ole Miss and Florida, but I would’ve been wrong. This week I’m hoping to be right about this matchup between Florida and Missouri.

The Florida Gators come into this game with a 4-0 record and are coming off of arguably the most impressive victory in College Football this season. The Gators hosted Ole Miss last week, and they rocked the Rebels. In fairness, this was a trap, and I did mention it in a preview I provided in a different article. Ole Miss had just come off an emotional win and was riding high; it was the ultimate let-down spot. Florida, to their credit, took advantage of the situation and won 52-28.

FLORIDA DROPS IMPRESSIVE OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE TO PULL OFF MASSIVE WIN OVER NO. 4 OLE MISS

They really haven’t had to play anyone outside of Ole Miss this season. They started the season with a demolition of Florida Atlantic, winning by 45. Then they beat Campbell by 49 in Week 2. Their biggest challenge was going on the road to face Auburn. They were able to win 44-39 in that game, and they were up big for most of the game. However, late in the game, they gave up two touchdowns in the final eight minutes to make the game closer than it needed to be.

Missouri is the 25th-ranked team in the country, and they currently sit at 3-1 for the year. They opened the season with a win over Arkansas Pine Bluff. It wasn’t much of a contest, with a 40-point win over the Golden Lions. The following week, they did have a bit of a challenge as they faced Kansas and won on the road with a 17-point victory over the Jayhawks. Week 3 saw them take on Troy and win by 10. Last week, they wouldn’t escape Mississippi State and lost by seven on the road.

THE CRAIG CARTON SHOW–UNFILTERED, UNAPOLOGETIC AND UNMISSABLE. DOWNLOAD HIS DAILY PODCAST NOW!

In order to win this one, they will need to find a way to stop a Florida team that has had no trouble scoring the ball this year. However, Florida also needs to be concerned about how they will stop quarterback Austin Simmons. He has 947 passing yards for the season and 11 touchdown passes. He has been really strong in almost every game. Last week he threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns. He won’t really run the ball, rushing 10 times for 1 yard this season, so he will look to attack the Gators through the air.

It is hard to believe that the Gators are going to lose this game, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this is a tougher match than their game last week. Florida struggled on the road against Auburn, and I think Missouri will make things difficult for the Gators as well. However, I think the over is the right play here. Both teams have strong offenses, and I think the defenses will struggle to stop them. Give me the over.

The hill I will die on: not everything is a ‘girl’ thing – stop gendering and infantilising it all | Elle Hunt

The Guardian News - Sat, 10/03/2026 - 14:00

No, I don’t want to go for a girl walk before my girl dinner with my girl mates: I am a grown woman who walks and eats and votes – and, patriarchy, I am on to you

This morning, after waking up with my girl cats, I made myself a cup of girl coffee then got stuck into some girl work. I took a break to lift some girl weights, then sent some more girl emails. Finally, after my girl dinner, it was time to get some sleep ahead of another long, hard day of being a girl.

I know what you’re thinking: why is this woman so insistent on gendering her unremarkable activities, and infantilising herself when she is clearly an adult? It’s a fair question. Since the pandemic, when “hot girl walks” followed Megan Thee Stallion’s 2019 song Hot Girl Summer to become one of the first big TikTok trends, this framing has become dismayingly ubiquitous, in person and online.

‘Happy Christmas, Ange’: why we have always loved a dramatic TV divorce

The Guardian News - Sat, 10/03/2026 - 14:00

Untying the knot is having a television moment with the launch of the HBO legal thriller War and BBC’s The Split Up

There were 105,002 divorces in England and Wales last year, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Right now, it feels like there are almost as many on TV.

The new HBO legal thriller War, which launched on Sky Atlantic on Friday night, chronicles what it calls “the highest-profile divorce case in UK history”. This enjoyably juicy eight-parter is joined in the weekend schedules by the BBC drama The Split Up – a Manchester-based spin-off from Abi Morgan’s The Split – following a British Asian family law firm specialising in elite divorces.
