Supermarket voted best grocery store in America as customers praise meal kits, variety of offerings

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:55

The Fresh Market, headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, recently took home a coveted award in the supermarket space — and its CEO revealed to Fox News Digital exactly why he feels the company won.

The store grabbed the No. 1 spot in the Best Grocery Store category of the 2026 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

The store also took home first-place wins in the Best Produce, Best Deli, Best Prepared Foods and Best Bakery sub-categories.

Brian Johnson, president and CEO of The Fresh Market, shared enthusiasm about the award but also said it's not based on one factor, but many.

"I really fell in love with the brand [from] day one," he said. "It makes it really easy to come to work every day. We have a great team here."

He's been CEO for just over six years. The supermarket chain has over 170 locations across 22 states.

Founded by Ray and Beverly Berry in 1982, The Fresh Market was inspired by European food markets and designed to provide a more "intimate and personalized shopping experience," the store’s website says.

Emphasis is placed on fresh, high-quality ingredients and prepared foods, plus a strong sense of hospitality, the organization said.

"When you buy a fresh product from us, you can be assured that our team has curated only the best, the freshest produce, the freshest-cut meat," Johnson said. "We cut meat fresh in our store every day."

He said that "every store has multiple butchers on staff, and so when you buy meat from one of our stores, you're getting the freshest available,"

Johnson also touted the ready-to-eat meals available at The Fresh Market. "Our mission statement is to make the everyday eating experience both extraordinary and easy."

A customer noted "the variety of veggies" available for sale "in your steam bags. Already prepared, so easy and wonderful variety. The produce area is always organized, neat, orderly and not a single spoiled thing in sight," according to the company's website.

Another customer shouted out the Peppercorn Steak Market meal kit offered by the store.

Over the last year, five stores have been added to The Fresh Market fleet, with plans for more growth in the future, Johnson said.

Other grocery stores that earned spots in the USA Today 10Best rankings included Publix, Kroger and ALDI.

Customers said they appreciated ALDI’s affordability, while Publix was cited for its cleanliness and friendly staff.

Shoppers said they valued Kroger for its convenience and its wide selection of products.

Johnson thanked store guests who voted for The Fresh Market.

"We really don't take that for granted, and we really appreciate that ... We feel very close to our guests," he said, "It's kinda like family."

DOJ moves to boot federal judges from immigration cases over NYT interview

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:54

The Justice Department wants several Minnesota federal judges removed from immigration cases after accusing them of crossing an ethical line by publicly criticizing President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown.

The complaint argued the judges improperly commented on the Trump administration's immigration enforcement while related cases were still pending, undermining public confidence in their impartiality.

Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Wednesday that the Justice Department filed a judicial misconduct complaint with the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals against seven Minnesota federal judges over their participation in a New York Times interview published last September.

"These judges talked to the media, or at least The New York Times, about cases, some of which are ongoing, in a manner which the Department views as a clear violation of their ethical duties," Blanche said.

‘UNPRECEDENTED’: JUDGES REVEAL BEHIND-THE-SCENES COORDINATION ON TRUMP IMMIGRATION CASES

The complaint specifically names Judge Patrick Schiltz, appointed by President George W. Bush, and Judge John Tunheim, a Clinton appointee, along with unnamed district judges who also participated in the interviews. The Justice Department asked the Eighth Circuit's Judicial Council to investigate the judges' conduct and order Schiltz and Tunheim to recuse themselves from Department of Homeland Security immigration cases, arguing that their impartiality could reasonably be questioned.

But, whether that happens, however, is not up to the Justice Department.

Under the federal judiciary's judicial misconduct process, complaints are reviewed within the judicial branch.

The chief judge of the circuit — which for the Eighth Circuit is Steven Colloton, a Bush-appointee — would first determine whether a complaint should be dismissed or referred to a special committee for further investigation, according to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. If a committee is appointed, it submits findings to the circuit's Judicial Council, which decides whether any corrective action is appropriate. The judiciary also notes that the misconduct process "cannot be used to obtain automatic disqualification of a judge presiding over a case" or simply challenge a judge's legal rulings.

OBAMA, BIDEN JUDGES DRAW FRESH FIRE AS TRUMP’S IMMIGRATION COURT CLASHES HEAT UP: ‘ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE’

The Justice Department's complaint stemmed from a Sept. 17, 2026, New York Times article in which Judge Schiltz and Tunheim and six other Minnesota federal judges discussed the wave of immigration litigation that followed the Trump administration's "Operation Metro Surge." The judges described an unprecedented influx of habeas petitions and reflected on how the cases strained court resources, while also expressing concerns about aspects of the administration's immigration enforcement efforts.

Both Schiltz, who sat for a nearly 90-minute interview, and Tunheim made remarks that were specifically cited in the DOJ complaint.

BLANCHE TORCHES TRUMP FOE BOASBERG AFTER APPEALS COURT BLOCKS JUDGE AGAIN IN DEPORTATION FIGHT

The Department argued those interviews crossed an ethical line because they addressed issues involved in active litigation. The complaint cited comments attributed to Schiltz describing the administration's actions as threatening "the constitutional order" and "the rule of law," as well as remarks from Tunheim criticizing the administration's immigration arrests.

The Justice Department alleged that those statements violated the Code of Conduct for United States Judges by commenting publicly on ongoing matters and creating the appearance that the judges had prejudged issues that were likely to come before them.

"The Framers insulated judges so they would exercise judgment, not will," Chad Mizelle, chair of Litigation for America First Policy Institute, wrote on X. "What we have now is the inverse: a bench enslaved to its own political ideology. When judges become politicians in a robe, the system starts to collapse."

Mizelle pointed out that, in the past, judges have been removed from cases due to their conversations with the press, which "created an appearance of bias."

"In 2001, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson gave embargoed interviews, including to the Times, while handling United States v. Microsoft," Mizelle wrote on X. "The D.C. Circuit called that conduct 'deliberate, repeated, egregious and flagrant' and removed him from the case. That standard still applies. What has changed is the willingness of sitting judges to ignore it."

Meanwhile Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison chalked the complaint up to be the Trump administration's attempt to intimidate judges.

"This complaint has nothing to do with judicial ethics and everything to do with political punishment," Ellison said in a statement. "Blanche and Trump are trying to punish the judges who ruled against federal government actions during Operation Metro Surge — including the Administration’s undisputed non-compliance at the time with hundreds of court orders — even though sometimes the court ruled with the government."

France’s teen riots take explosive new turn as government points finger at hard left

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:27

Violent student unrest intensified across France on Friday as riot police clashed with teenagers in several cities, roughly 400 high schools remained shuttered and authorities said some 2,000 people had been arrested since the protests began — while the government increasingly blamed the country’s hard left.

Tear gas filled streets in Strasbourg, protesters fired fireworks toward police lines in Marseille, and garbage bins were set ablaze in Rennes, while clashes also broke out in Paris, Reuters reported Friday. The latest violence marks a sharp escalation from the unrestt reported by Fox News Digital Thursday, when hundreds had been arrested as school blockades and clashes spread across the country.

Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin told RTL radio Friday that approximately 2,000 people — most of them teenagers — had been arrested since the protests erupted. He said parents whose children damage property should be required to pay reparations, according to Reuters.

"In the streets, the children are in danger," Education Minister Édouard Geffray told BFM TV.

ISRAELI AMBASSADOR COMPARES FRANCE'S FAR-LEFT LEADER'S RHETORIC TO HITLER AS ANTISEMITISM SURGES

Euronews reported Friday that at least 65 school staff members, including 40 principals, have been injured since the unrest began, along with roughly 170 students. More than 100 high schools have suffered what Geffray described as "severe damage."

The protests began over complaints about overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages, long school days and deteriorating facilities. Students have blamed years of underinvestment for conditions inside schools, as the government unveiled its draft 2027 budget Thursday. Under the proposal, education spending would rise 1.7% to 65.53 billion euros, excluding teacher pensions — an increase below the rate of inflation, according to Reuters.

But as the protests have grown more violent, the unrest has also become a major political fight.

French intelligence agencies told a government crisis meeting Thursday that the protest movement had been initiated by politicians from the hard-left France Unbowed Party, known as LFI, Reuters reported Friday.

FRENCH COURT CLEARS PATH FOR CONSERVATIVE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, BUT HOUSE ARREST THREATENS CAMPAIGN

LFI lawmakers rejected the allegation and accused President Emmanuel Macron's government of politicizing the protests ahead of France's 2027 presidential election.

Le Monde reported Friday that Geffray accused LFI of fueling the initial demonstrations before saying the movement had been "taken hostage by ultra-left groups." LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon has denied responsibility for the violence.

Simone Rodan-Benzaquen, senior envoy to Europe at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital on Thursday that the unrest began with legitimate concerns but has since evolved into something far more serious.

"The students’ grievances about missing teachers and deteriorating schools were real at first," Rodan-Benzaquen said. "But dousing a principal in gasoline and attacking firefighters are acts of extreme violence. What makes this politically significant is the effort to turn frustration over schools into a much broader confrontation with the government."

The protests are quickly becoming a major issue in the campaign to succeed Macron next May, with Mélenchon denouncing the government’s response as repressive. Rodan-Benzaquen said LFI has "actively supported the mobilization," adding that "activists circulate footage of clashes, party accounts amplify it and elected officials present themselves as the students’ defenders."

"With an election next year," she said, "Mélenchon sees these mobilizations as a way to consolidate young voters and marginalize the moderate left. At a time of deep political, geopolitical and economic challenges, this is a very dangerous situation for France."

Marine Le Pen also accused LFI of playing a direct role in the unrest. "This is no longer about high school student protests. It is about riots organized by professionals and overseen by deputies from La France Insoumise," Le Pen wrote on X in a translated post. "We must pass a new anti-rioters law so that participation in a riot is a clearly identified offense."

PSG CHAMPIONS LEAGUE VICTORY CAUSES CHAOS IN PARIS, WITH 45 ARRESTED AND FIRES SET ACROSS CITY

The government has now deployed specialized riot police and mobile gendarmes as authorities struggle to contain the unrest, Le Monde reported.

The government's response is also drawing scrutiny. Students and rights groups have accused police of excessive force against minors, including the use of batons, tear gas and non-lethal weapons. Amnesty International warned against excessive force, while France's Interior Ministry said Friday that three investigations into alleged police violence had been opened, according to Reuters.

The unrest may also be beginning to spread beyond France. Students in Liège, Belgium, began demonstrating Thursday, and high schools there were closed Friday.

Fox News Digital reached out to the French government, the Education Ministry, the Interior Ministry and La France Insoumise for comment but did not receive responses in time for publication.

NBA's Portland Trail Blazers hire announcer, then fire him hours later over tweets from his teenage years

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:26

The Portland Trail Blazers fired 29-year-old Braiden Bell on Thursday, just hours after naming him their lead TV announcer, over decade-old social media posts he made when he was a teenager.

Bell, who over from the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury to replace veteran Kevin Calabro as the youngest primary broadcaster in the NBA, was out of a job before he even put on a headset.

The firing came after local station KGW unearthed tweets from Bell's account written between 2012 and 2014. In a December 2012 post, a 15-year-old Bell wrote, "I'm not racist at all.. But not gonna lie.. Asian people piss me off! Hahaha #Honest."

In July 2013, he added, "no blacks either. #racist." He also appeared to make disparaging remarks about women in some posts.

The Trail Blazers didn’t hesitate as they essentially hired Bell, announced him and fired him hours later.

Panicking in real time, Blazers executives skipped administrative leave and terminated Bell that evening with an official statement:

"The Portland Trail Blazers have zero tolerance for racist, sexist, or harmful comments. Social media posts made by our recently announced play-by-play broadcaster are in clear violation of team and league policies, as well as our values and expectations. Therefore, we will not be moving forward with this broadcaster.

"The play-by-play role carries a long legacy of excellence, on the broadcast and in character, and we hold that standard without exception. We did not meet our own bar in this process, and for that we apologize to Blazers fans and to Rip City. We believe strongly that everyone who is a part of Rip City should feel welcome and safe and we will make sure that our new broadcaster reflects these values. We will do better."

DAN LE BATARD CLAIMS ESPN IS RUN BY MCAFEE AND 'WHITE PEOPLE' AFTER LAYOFFS, SLANDERS OUTKICK IN UNHINGED RANT

Some critics on social media were quick to call out the Blazers' panic and surrender to online outrage over 10th-grade tweets.

"This guy's career may have just been ruined. Before he even graduated high school. Did he post something stupid as a stupid kid? Or do we really believe those posts as a child reflect who he is as an adult? Do ppl even care or do we just want blood? Is this really what we want?"

Another user accused the team of "virtue signaling by the franchise to hang this over his head and destroy his career over it."

The Trailblazers did not immediately respond to OutKick's request for comment.

Gordon Ramsay admits real reason he was crying while walking daughter down the aisle

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:26

Gordon Ramsay opened up about the bittersweet experience of giving away his daughter, Holly Ramsay, at her wedding.

Holly, 26, married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, 31, in December 2025 after the couple announced their engagement in 2024. The 59-year-old celebrity chef shares Holly, her twin brother Jack, daughters Megan, 28, and Matilda, 24, and sons Oscar, 7, and Jesse, 2, with his wife, Tana Ramsay, 52, whom he married in 1996.

During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Ramsay, who is starring in season two of Apple TV's "Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars," reflected on the close bonds that he shares with his three daughters and explained why he was left feeling "second best" after he walked Holly down the aisle.

GORDON RAMSAY SAYS ‘THE MOST IMPORTANT THING’ HE TAUGHT HIS SIX KIDS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH COOKING

"You grow up with these gorgeous girls and you teach them. I said to them, from an early age, they must have been seven or eight years of age, ‘The earlier you tell me, the more I can f---ing do," he recalled.

"They ignore you for two or three years," Ramsay continued. "But when they get to 11 or 12, ‘Hey daddy, you know what he said to me? The earlier you told me, the more you can do, I have a problem. Can I talk to you about it?’"

KELLY RIPA, MARK CONSUELOS SHARE BLUNT ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING A BIG WEDDING

"Bang, then we're in,'" he added with a smile. "Then you're like that, you're sort of the BFF, right? Then you're a cool f---ing dad, then you're perfect. But when you walk them down the aisle, and you're minutes away from not being the number one guy in their life, and you're handing them over, man, that hits. That absolutely hits."

"So you have to understand that that relationship with your daughter is borrowed time before there's another man in their lives. Another partner in their life, that you become second best."

The "Hell's Kitchen" star noted that as a father of six, he will have to experience those moments multiple times in the future.

"I have ages to go through all that s---," he said. "Three boys and three girls."

Ramsay, who is famous for his fiery temper and tough demeanor in the kitchen, admitted to becoming emotional at Holly's wedding but joked that it was not for the reason that most people would expect.

"I was like a sack of f---ing custard walking down that bloody — that line — into that church. 60 meters!" he recalled. "And I was looking at all these flowers overlooking the pews and thinking, ‘S---, this is expensive!' Everyone thought I was crying because I was giving her away. I was more crying with the f---ing cost of the flower bill, and where are they going tomorrow? We're paying all this money for 90 minutes, these flowers."

Ramsay quipped that his tears dried up once he realized that the flowers could be repurposed for a good cause.

"We got the flowers donated to the local hospital and that stopped me crying," he said. "And then I handed her over, and I celebrated like no tomorrow, because that daughter was expensive."

CLINT BLACK AND LISA HARTMAN BLACK'S ONE RULE THAT HAS KEPT THEIR MARRIAGE STRONG FOR NEARLY 35 YEARS

Holly and Peaty's wedding took place on Dec. 27, 2025 at The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Bath, England. During a January interview with People, Ramsay admitted that he was nervous about giving his father-of-the-bride speech.

"It's tough, honestly — I mean, being a dad with three daughters, you dream of that moment. That moment arrives, and you're just like a hot mess," he told the outlet. "The speech was perfect. It went well. You got to find that sort of — you've got to be warm, emotional ... It was just a tough gig."

Tilly told People that Ramsay spent about an hour rehearsing his speech in front of her on Christmas Eve. She said that while Ramsay pored over every word, ultimately "no tweaks were needed."

"It was perfect," Tilly said. "It made everybody cry."

‘CHARLIE’S ANGELS’ STAR JACLYN SMITH LIVED APART FROM HER HUSBAND FOR 17 YEARS DURING THEIR 35-YEAR LOVE STORY

Holly wore three different dresses on her wedding day, including her mother's gown from her 1996 nuptials with Ramsay. The TV personality told People that seeing Holly in Tana's wedding dress came as "a bit of a shock."

While speaking with British Vogue in January, Holly noted that wearing the gown during her father-daughter dance with Ramsay was especially meaningful because "the last time Dad saw this dress was when he danced with my mom at their wedding."

At the time, Holly told the outlet that Ramsay became emotional whenever she discussed the wedding leading up to her big day.

"Dad cries every time I talk about the wedding," she said."The other day I was asking him which car he and I would take to the church, and he welled up immediately."

Though Holly is the first of Ramsay's six children to walk down the aisle, he will soon have to give another daughter away. In an August appearance on "Live with Kelly and Mark," he revealed that Megan was engaged.

During his interview with Fox News Digital, Ramsay noted that he needed to start preparing for Megan's nuptials.

"I've got to get my dance act together, especially with another wedding coming up next year," he said.

"Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars," which is executive produced by Ramsay, made its debut on Apple TV in October 2025. Hosted by food expert Jesse Burgess, the documentary series follows chefs around the world as they pursue Michelin stars while balancing the personal and professional sacrifices required to achieve culinary excellence.

While speaking with Fox News Digital, Ramsay admitted that his own pursuit of perfection in the kitchen had come at a cost. Looking back, the "MasterChef" star reflected on the biggest sacrifice that he made while building his restaurant empire.

"Time," he said. "You become one of the most, sort of, you know, selfish individuals because you need to focus. And so I'd say the sacrifice was less time with the family straight off the bat."

"There's a lot of situations in ‘Knife Edge,' you'll see families working together. That's actually harder," he continued. "My wife and I decided that 'Look, the time we have is little, but it'd be quality.' It won't be great, long time, but it would be quality. And then my kids appreciate the time they had with me."

"They didn't see me seven nights a week," Ramsay said. "I didn't do the school runs. I wasn't doing the dinners and the goodbyes and the plays and all the nativities. I couldn't do that. And so, don't forget when all your mates are out celebrating, you're working because they're either eating at the restaurants or out going to another restaurant."

"So yeah, I'd say time, the biggest, the most expensive ingredient in the world, time," he added. "And you have to sacrifice that time."

Ramsay, whose restaurants currently hold nine Michelin stars worldwide, has earned a total of 17 Michelin stars over the course of his career. His flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London has held the maximum three Michelin stars continuously since 2001. Ramsay's portfolio gained a ninth star earlier this year when Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High in London's Bishopsgate area earned its first Michelin star in the 2026 Michelin Guide.

According to the official synopsis, season two of "Knife Edge" "follows 16 restaurants at pivotal moments in their journeys: A chef and his family risk everything to put a tiny island on Michelin’s map. Two generations of a legendary culinary family pursue recognition on their own terms. Two chefs voluntarily give up their Star when they open a new restaurant and have just 52 days to win it back."

"One sandwich shop transforms into a fine-dining restaurant each night, while a young couple seeks to put Filipino cuisine at the center of one of America’s most competitive dining scenes. Their circumstances could hardly be more different, yet each faces the same uncertainty: when Michelin makes its decision, will everything they have strived for be enough?"

Ramsay noted that "Knife Edge" pulls back the curtain on the countless hours of preparation and discipline that diners rarely see before a meal reaches the table.

"Finally, now we have a show on Apple that really unfolds that unscripted drama and follows the highs and lows, the emotions, the pressures that these restaurants are under — especially today," he said.

The celebrity chef told Fox News Digital that he hopes the show gives viewers a new appreciation for the commitment behind every Michelin-starred meal.

"I'd love the audience to take away from ‘Knife Edge' season 2 the understanding of pursuit for perfection and the price they pay is extraordinary," Ramsay said. "And then to understand properly, the commitment to perfection. You go to games and live sports, and you see that energy and the excitement and the touchdowns and the medals and the ceremony. It's the exact same for a restaurant. That you don't even see."

PUT YOUR ENTERTAINMENT KNOWLEDGE TO THE TEST AND SEE HOW YOU SCORE

"By the time you're even thinking about getting out of bed in the morning, these restaurants are functioning with ingredients arriving, with cooks preparing, and they're [working] 12 hours, 14 hours for something that you're gonna devour in two f---ing minutes," he continued. "And those two f---ing minutes have been 12 hours in a chef's hand."

"Understand that and understand the value in perfection."

Season 2 of "Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars" premiered on Sept. 25 on Apple TV.

DHS torches sanctuary Fairfax after accused child predator released despite immigration detainer

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:21

Homeland security officials blasted Fairfax County, Virginia after DHS arrested an illegal immigrant convicted of pedophilic crimes, including aggravated sexual battery of a parent with a child and illicit filming of a naked minor, following the Democrat-led municipality's refusal to honor an ICE detainer.

The dispute comes as DHS and Republicans in Congress remain at odds with county leaders, including Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano and Sheriff Stacey Ann Kincaid, over what they describe as a lax approach to prosecuting illegal immigrants and cooperating with federal authorities.

"Another criminal illegal alien has been taken off the streets by the brave men and women of ICE, with no help from sanctuary politicians in Fairfax County," DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement.

Fox News Digital reached out to Kincaid's office — which handles the jail — and a Fairfax County spokesman for comment but did not hear back by press time.

ICE ARRESTS ILLEGAL ALIEN ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING CHILDREN AFTER FAIRFAX COUNTY RELEASE: DHS

ICE’s Washington field office arrested Honduran illegal immigrant Oscar Evaristo Nunez more than a year after Fairfax County corrections officials released him without cooperating with federal authorities.

Nunez was previously arrested in Fairfax on Aug. 27, 2025, on charges including aggravated sexual battery of a parent with a child ages 13 to 17, two counts of nonconsensual videotaping of an undressed minor and two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13.

He was released two days later from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center after corrections officials declined to honor a detainer lodged by ICE.

"This illegal alien from Honduras had been arrested for child sex crimes in August last year, but Fairfax County refused to honor ICE’s detainer and let this creep back out onto the streets," Mullin said.

ABIGAIL SPANBERGER’S VIRGINIA A ‘HOTBED’ FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CRIME, DHS SAYS AFTER LATEST RAPE CHARGE

"Once again, ICE did the job that these heartless sanctuary politicians won’t do: enforce the law and protect American lives. DHS is calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians to stop putting the needs of illegal aliens over the safety of the American people."

Nunez remains in ICE custody, but his criminal proceedings continue in absentia in Fairfax, a spokesperson for Descano told Fox News Digital.

The spokesperson said a Descano prosecutor objected to the release.

Nunez's plea hearing was scheduled for Friday but has been continued to Nov. 5. A Descano spokesperson said ICE "stalled our ability to seek justice in this case and further delayed the [victim’s] family’s ability to get the closure they deserve" by taking him into custody "during an active prosecution."

Robert Guadian, director of ICE's Washington field office, said in a statement issued before the spokesperson's comments that when local officials refuse to honor ICE detainers, they prioritize politics over the safety of their communities.

The incident occurred before incumbent Gov. Abigail Spanberger took office in January, but ICE pointed to several other recent cases of denied detainers and the like that they say have created an unsafe environment across Virginia.

The agency has previously cited her executive directives undoing Youngkin-era cooperation with ICE at the state level and the passage of a law restricting cooperative agreements between local authorities and DHS, which a George H.W. Bush-appointed judge temporarily blocked last month.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a Spanberger spokesperson said the Democrat "strongly believes violent criminals who are in the United States illegally should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and deported."

"Under Governor Spanberger’s leadership, the Virginia Department of Corrections continues the long-standing practice of notifying ICE when individuals born outside of the United States are in state custody," they said.

The spokesperson also cited Spanberger’s history as a CIA officer prosecuting crimes involving minors as particularly sensitive to Nunez’ case.

"As a former federal law enforcement officer who went after child predators, Governor Spanberger will always prioritize the safety and well-being of Virginia families and kids."

Adam Copeland's Maple Leaf Pro match makes Northern Rising 'a big deal,' Rohan Raja says

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 17:02

Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling (MLP) will host one of its biggest events of its year on Saturday night with Northern Rising taking place at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

Adam Copeland will wrestle in Maple Leaf Gardens for what’s expected to be a very special homecoming for the legendary wrestler. He will take on Steve Maclin, who has been tormenting Copeland since he burst onto the MLP scene a few weeks ago.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE OUTKICK PRO WRESTLING COVERAGE

Rohan Raja will be on the Northern Rising card, taking on Andrade El Idolo for the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) National Championship. He spoke to OutKick Dropkick recently about being in the building for Copeland’s appearance.

"I think what's cool is (Copeland), I think it was maybe about a month ago, he posted notes on his list of stadiums he wanted to wrestle in, his bucket list, and it's cool that two of the stadiums on there that I've wrestled in before, including Maple Leaf Gardens," he said.

"And just for someone of that caliber to say, this is one of my lifetime goals I've wanted to do since I've started wrestling and everything, and I think we already have this historic buzz going around because this really feels like a really, really big deal and it's obviously our biggest show, but having someone like him and him being backstage and just seeing the vibe that he's going to bring and his emotion and everything, so like someone of a Hall of Fame career is going to get emotional coming into this venue, It's more of like a reminder for me, like, oh damn, this is a big deal. And him and Maclin are going to kill it."

Copeland explained to OutKick Dropkick what it meant for him to be able to wrestle at Maple Leaf Gardens, knowing that it was the arena where he saw the sport as a child.

"Maple Leaf Gardens was the very first time I saw wrestling live, and to see it live and for it to be this tangible thing and wait, these guys and women, they’re real," he told OutKick in a recent interview. "I can go see them and actually smack hands with them and that kind of thing? But just the feeling that it gave me as a release and as a place where I didn't have to worry about things as a kid and I didn't have to think about, you know, the stuff that goes on in life. We lost my uncle when I was very young and I was very close to him and I feel like that was a big hole that wrestling helped try and fill, it doesn't fill it, but you know what I mean.

"Man, the first time I saw it, I just went, I got to do this. But I'm 9, 10 saying that, right? But it was Maple Leaf Gardens and the fact that it was in that venue added more importance to it for me because all I ever did was watch stuff from Maple Leaf Gardens whether it was Maple Leaf wrestling or the Toronto Maple Leafs. My world kind of revolved around that arena and I never got down for a Leafs game, but we could afford wrestling tickets and so to get down there, experience so many shows over there over the years and just experience what it felt like because, I've said before, I feel at a certain point, if the arena’s been around long enough and had enough shows and experiences there, they almost start to soak in some of those experiences and some of that energy and some of those emotions so that when you walk in them, you feel like, oh, stuff has happened here."

The pay-per-view event, which can be purchased via MyAEW, will also feature a few title matches: Priscilla Kelly defending the MLP Women’s Championship against Nikki Storm, Josh Alexander and Stu Grayson battling for the Undisputed MLP Canadian Championship and 1st Faction, Grizzled Young Veterans and Sinner & Saint competing in a three-way tag team match for the MLP Canadian Tag Team Championship.

Elsewhere, Kinsley and Alexia Nicole take on Alice Crowley and Jody Threat in a tag team match, Dan Maff, Psycho Mike and Crazzy Steve battle in a Monster’s Mayhem match and Máscara Dorada and Subculture take on TJP, Johnny TV and Gabriel Fuerza in a mixed six-person tag team match.

Raja said he was confident going into his match but believed the entire card will crush it.

"I'm very confident in my match, but I'm confident that every match on the card is going to succeed expectations. Like the card is stacked right now and it's going to be a great pay-per-view."

Hero FlyDubai pilot says he was 'fighting for my life' as plane plunged after copilot attack

Capt. Smit Machchhar, the FlyDubai pilot who heroically opened the plane's cockpit door after being stabbed by his copilot in a mid-flight attack, told Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi he was fighting for his life before taking the heroic action.

"You are my biggest idol, and I am feeling very proud that you called me and encouraged me. I was fighting for my life in that moment," he told Modi during a Friday phone call.

"It was a moment when I thought, because I had fallen on the floor, I was wounded and fell down. At that moment, I thought if I don't get up, I've been flying for the last 17 years and I have been a captain for the last 11 years, and even if I shut my eyes, I can tell what is happening inside a plane. When I was lying on the floor, I could feel that the aircraft was plunging, and I said to myself while I was getting beaten, 'This is the last push Smit, do it, the door is right there,'" he recalled.

"Somehow, I opened the door and everyone came in and everyone else had an equal role (in the rescue). I was trying to save myself, but I also knew that I can't let anyone die," he said.

Machchhar’s ability to open the door allowed Israeli passengers on board to rush into the cockpit, incapacitate the copilot, and stabilize the quickly plummeting aircraft after it had plunged more than 14,000 feet in 30 seconds.

The heroic pilot, whose efforts have garnered praise from Modi, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and numerous passengers on the flight, said he turned to his faith to get through the harrowing ordeal.

"Whenever I'm in pain, I know only one thing, I chant the Hanuman Chalisa. I know that God saved me," Machchhar said.

Modi, in turn, told Machchhar that all of India was praying for him.

"Yesterday, prayers and chants were offered in all the temples and holy places, wishing for your long life, and we all are praying for your good health. You are going to be in good health very soon and India is very eager to welcome you," Modi said.

"People are chanting mantras. Your courage, patience, and presence of mind. You took a decision in a fraction of a second and saved the lives of so many people and today, the whole country can say this with pride — we Indians are not killers, we are lifesavers," Modi said. "And you endured so many wounds on your body and you are fighting a battle of life and death. In that moment as well, you did not think of your life, rather thought about the lives of the passengers. And the biggest thing is you enhanced the honor of 1.4 billion Indians and that is why I am feeling proud from my heart."

Machchhar was stabbed in the head and "his arm was basically split in two" during the attack, Netanyahu revealed to Fox News in a Thursday interview. But the pilot expressed hope that he would achieve a full recovery.

"I am not thinking about my wounds like typical wounds because that will hinder my recovery. I am taking these wounds like a journey which will progress slowly, and it will take time, but I am very confident that this recovery will happen, and I will be absolutely healthy," he told Modi.

After being stabilized in Saudi Arabia, where a second flight crew on board the plane safely landed the plane, Machchhar was taken to a hospital in the UAE, where he is now recovering.

"I am fine and everything is all right," he told Modi.

Livvy Dunne and slim Paul Skenes in the Bahamas, internet's favorite woodworking influencer stops by & meat

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 16:41

I'm up earlier than normal on a day off, it's Friday, Joe's on the golf course somewhere today, and I have a trip to the airport to take later this morning. Let's get this edition of Screencaps going.

First item on the agenda is I time traveled yesterday morning. Nobody called me on it, which makes me think maybe we all did some time traveling. But hand up, I referenced the wrong Thursday Night Football game yesterday.

You could say I got it wrong, or as I prefer to say, I was early. I mentioned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys game. That's next Thursday's short week, sloppy game. Last night was actually the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns.

NFL SIDELINE REPORTER MELANIE COLLINS DOES IT AGAIN, SYDNEY SWEENEY TO THE MOON & TOMLIN'S MINECRAFT REVEAL

I'm not sure how that happened, but I'm not a robot. I can time travel by accident sometimes.

The flag-filled game in Cleveland ended up being close at the end and that's all you can ask for on Thursday night, with the Browns in their disgusting uniforms and flags hitting the grass every other play.

As far as the other game I mentioned, I nailed that. No time traveling there. The Phillies were sent home by the Braves in a game that was never in doubt. An early postseason exit is tough.

You know what isn’t tough? Having absolutely no chance of playing past the 162 and getting to plan your offseason appropriately. I say it every year and I stand by it.

BRAVES DOMINATE PHILLIES WITH BIG HOME RUNS TO SET UP HUGE NLDS AGAINST LOS ANGELES DODGERS

If you're not going to make a deep playoff run, it's not the end of the world to miss out entirely. Just ask Paul Skenes, who I might add looks like he slimmed down.

He's in the Bahamas, he's with girlfriend Livvy Dunne, things could be a lot worse for him. The Pirates lost 80 games this season and while they avoided the NL Central cellar, they didn’t have to worry about the postseason.

Instead, they got their offseason started earlier than all the teams who ended up getting bounced in the Wild Card round. That meant an early start on resting up for next season.

In Skenes' case, that also meant getting to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday with her somewhere warm. Again, things could be a lot worse for the star right-hander.

I say enjoy it while you can, because one day this is likely going to change for him. He's going to eventually get out of Pittsburgh and onto a team that has deep postseason potential.

Happy birthday, Livvy. And happy offseason, Paul.

Incredible job, Johnny. I can see you're a guy who takes his meat seriously. I respect that and I want to see more. There's a lot going on in the Swinewinder and I imagine it's awesome. Keep sending me your meat.

- Gen X Warren M writes:

Hey SeanJo,

Congrats on your daughter getting married! Really happy for your family.

Last weekend, I raced and finished my 4th half IRONMAN race (70.3 miles of swim/bike/run) in Augusta, Georgia. Very beautiful course with a hilly ride (I live in super flat South Florida, so bridge repeats can only go so far) and a scenic run through South Carolina, just over the Savannah River, which gave me a fast swim via the current. The cold front helped, because the temps started at 56 and ended at 82. Normally it’s hot with a heat index of 100, from what we were told. I wasn’t in town long enough to truly enjoy it, but everyone was truly nice! I added a pic of the great medal. Any other Screencapers do this race this year or in the past? In Augusta-based SCers that were out cheering us on? As far as another 70.3, I am going to give it 2 years. It’s a lot of training, and my one full IRONMAN I did years ago is all I need (140.6 miles).

Also wanted to share a photo from last night. Mrs. Gen X Warren M needed to go to our local mall to pick up an order. We passed Altar’d State, a clothing store (which she sometimes shops at), and they already had their Christmas decorations up in the main window! October 1st! Are we now bypassing Halloween and Thanksgiving?? I attached a photo.

Anyway, take care! No grilling as we have had nonstop rain (except when a cool front came in while I was in Augusta). Possibly this weekend.

SeanJo

Thanks for the mention of my daughter's wedding. It was a good time and everything went well. Most importantly, the bride and her mother didn't kill each other putting it all together.

When it comes to the Ironman races that's some serious work. How long do you train for one of those? Not that I'm planning to ever give it a try.

The early fall followed by the early Christmas being pushed on everyone is the fault of those who fall for it. If you don’t buy it early, and shame those around you who do, they'll stop putting them out so early. It's gross.

Hey SeanJo,

Solid first call to the bullpen for the Wild Card Playoffs W! You trusted your stuff that put you in this position and it clearly showed...solid content, great IGs, spot on sports nuggets, outstanding pics of our meat, and even a nod to recognize that Sophomoric humor will never die in Screencaps Nation!

I am one of those "year round maniacs that fire up the grill even when there is snow on the ground" that you referred to in your reply to my email yesterday. Proud of it and it separates the "pretenders from the contenders." One exception...Feb 1 of this year, Sunset Beach NC had a historic snowfall of 15"...AT THE BEACH!! Even I could not muster the gonads to go out in that and grill or fire up the Blackstone! I did manage to go out at 7:45 AM and take pics of this historic event.

Hope you finish this second Playoff call to the Bullpen strong and don't have to rely on a crucial deciding weekend call. I have a feeling that you will nail it. The pics just remind us what is looming...enjoy Fall, y'all!

SeanJo

Thanks for the support. I will always trust my stuff, even when it falls short. Let me be clear about those who hit the grill all year. Maniacs is meant as a compliment. Some of my favorite people hit the grill year round and I don’t blame you for taking a few days off due to historic snowfall.

That's all for Friday. Have a great day. I have to run shortly, and I'll see everyone on Sunday. It's a big weekend for me as far as sports are concerned, unless I'm time traveling again, which I don't think I am.

The Yankees take on the Rays in the ALDS. Can they keep their bats going in Tampa? We shall see. And the Panthers are the Sunday Night Football game.

They'll be hosting the Lions and a win would be nice. The bottom line is that both teams have to go get and not get got.

Taylor Sheridan has written the script for 'Sicario 3' as franchise gears up for return

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 16:32

The wheels are officially turning on a third "Sicario" film.

The "Sicario" franchise was created by Taylor Sheridan, and the first film was released in 2015. It featured an absolutely stacked cast, and received broad praise from critics and viewers.

It's a dark and gritty movie about the covert war against the drug cartels. The second film – "Sicario: Day of the Soldado" – was released in 2018 with Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro and Jeffrey Donovan all reprising their roles.

Now, it's time to gear up to run it back once again.

There's long been whispers and rumors about a third "Sicario" film happening. Finally, momentum started rolling when Josh Brolin confirmed back in August it was going to happen.

Well, the latest update is guaranteed to get fans of Sheridan's work fired up.

Variety reported Thursday that the "Yellowstone" creator has written the script for an untitled third film in the franchise.

No other details are known at this time, other than it appears a lock that Josh Brolin will be back as Matt Graver.

"Sicario" earned nearly $85 million at the box office more than a decade ago against an estimated budget of $30 million.

While it wasn't a monster at the box office, most of the film's success and popularity came in the years that followed.

It's truly a masterpiece and one of the rawest looks at the war against the cartels ever put on the big screen. The most impressive part is the audience is led to believe the main focus of the story is FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt).

In reality, the story is about Alejandro (del Toro), and that becomes clear once the commandos enter the tunnel system at the end of the movie.

Now, fans will get a third movie, and I guarantee you it's going to move the needle with Sheridan leading the way. Let me know what you hope to see at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Fever player violently thrown to the ground, and what the horrible WNBA refs did next will shock you

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 16:20

Everyone can officially turn the page to football season. For good, this time.

The Indiana Fever are done. Kaput. Finished. Off to Cancun as we speak! Indiana lost to Las Vegas in Thursday night's elimination game, and will now ride off into the sunset after giving us the greatest summer of content since 1967.

Caitlin Clark is on hiatus until next May. Sophie Cunningham is free to grow her off-the-court content, including her podcast and Instagram page. I imagine she will do both, and do both well.

SEASON'S OVER: CAITLIN CLARK LEAVES IT ALL ON COURT WITH BLOODY MOUTH AS FEVER FALL IN GAME 3

As for guard Lexie Hull ... she'll probably spend at least some of the offseason in an ice bath after getting tossed to the ground like a ragdoll during last night's Game 3.

Take a look:

The entire sequence is just so perfect for the WNBA. It's everything right — and wrong — with that league.

The officiating is just horrible. That's No. 1. We forget about just how truly awful the officials are most of the year because there's so much other nonsense going on, but at the end of the day, they are undoubtedly the worst officials in all of sports.

Remember earlier this summer when Sophie Cunningham got her teeth cracked by an elbow and no foul was called? Amazing. Same thing here with Lexie Hull.

LISA LESLIE SAYS WNBA OFFICIALS 'GOT TO DO BETTER' AFTER ALYSSA THOMAS SHOVED FIST INTO CAITLIN CLARK'S THROAT

She essentially gets put in an armbar and then violently slammed to the ground ... and SHE was called for the foul! What are we doing here? Just a suplex in a WNBA game, and the person on the receiving end of it gets the whistle.

Incredible.

WNBA COACH TORCHES LEAGUE’S OFFICIATING AFTER LATEST BIZARRE NO-CALL: ‘IT’S A F------ JOKE’

Not as incredible as the absolute chaos that took place in the 60 seconds after the call. Fever head coach Stephanie White is BEGGING for a review. Lexie Hull is BEGGING for a review. The entire Fever bench is BEGGING for a review.

Meanwhile, the clueless refs just allow the Aces to proceed with the free throw shot, thus ending any hope for a review. And then, they just move on with the game.

No explanation. No review. No nothing. Just a Fever player slammed to the ground, a couple Aces free throws, and a couple zebras looking as clueless as ever.

See you in May, WNBA.

Good riddance.

REP RO KHANNA: US and China can't afford an AI arms race with humanity at stake

Fox News - Fri, 10/02/2026 - 16:00

America and China do not agree on much. But when it comes to AI, we all lose if we lose control.

Last month, as the ranking member of the House Select Committee on China, I convened the first-ever congressional hearing calling for a binding, enforceable, and verifiable U.S.-China AI treaty. I also led every Democrat on the Committee in sending the White House a letter demanding global action to tackle AI risks. Within days, President Trump and General Secretary Xi announced that they would establish a bilateral dialogue on AI. This is an important first step that would not have happened without congressional pressure.

But this moment demands more than discussion. At my hearing, some of the world's leading experts on AI called for the U.S. and China to form joint technical working groups with both countries' top scientists. Their mission would be to develop mutually trusted verification technologies that prevent either side from cheating once we sign a U.S.-China AI treaty. This is an easy second step we should take today.

ANTHROPIC CEO LIKENS AI FIGHT WITH CHINA TO COLD WAR, SEEKS 'DISARMAMENT NEGOTIATIONS'

Critically, we also need to begin envisioning what an actual treaty to save humanity from unchecked AI would look like. The risk that humans will lose control of AI or that misaligned models could unleash biological havoc is increasing every day, and if the world's AI superpowers do not act soon, it may be too late.

To address these risks, there are five key pillars of a U.S.-China AI treaty. First, we need a worldwide pause on recursive self-improvement. This is when AI develops AI without human intervention, and it's the most likely path to humanity losing control of this technology entirely. Asking AI to design its own safeguards is like asking the fox to guard the henhouse.

MIKE JOHNSON REJECTS AI MORATORIUM OVER CHINA THREAT AS CONSERVATIVE ACTIVIST DEMANDS GUARDRAILS

Second, we should impose a global pause on superintelligence. As it has been traditionally defined, superintelligence is AI that exceeds human capabilities across all domains. This could unleash Pandora's box, and neither America nor China is ready for it.

Third, we must have kill switches embedded in all advanced models. While scientists disagree about the efficacy of kill switches, they would at least give us a fighting chance if rogue models decided to turn against humanity.

AI KILL SWITCH BILL COULD SHUT DOWN ROGUE MODELS

Fourth, every AI model should be tested in an air-gapped sandbox prior to release to prevent catastrophic misuse. Whether it's an American model or a Chinese model, criminals, terrorists and even misaligned AI agents shouldn't be able to unleash economically devastating cyberattacks because a frontier lab decided to release a beta version.

And fifth, but perhaps most importantly, we need to heed President Reagan's wise words and "trust, but verify." Especially with China, we cannot simply take the CCP at its word. Both governments should agree on verification technologies and inspection regimes that ensure Beijing cannot simply cheat, allowing its labs to race ahead while American labs lag behind. We will also need to build institutions that both sides in a fierce competition can trust, such as an International AI Inspection Agency.

BEYOND KILLER ROBOTS: CHINA'S REAL AI THREAT TO AMERICA IS ALREADY HERE, EXPERTS WARN

During the Cold War, even as America and the USSR fought fiercely, President Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev recognized that nuclear war would have left both nations worse off. Winning an AI war is like winning a nuclear war. It is catastrophic for civilization.

In that same spirit, even as we continue to hold China accountable for its predatory economic practices that harm American workers and its human rights abuses, both countries should be able to rally around the common cause of keeping humans in control of AI. A U.S.-China AI treaty advantages neither America nor China, but rather all of humanity. A global pandemic unleashed by rogue AI wouldn't distinguish between American and Chinese citizens, and neither government benefits if mankind ceases to call the shots.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION

A verifiable U.S.-China AI treaty will not happen overnight, but if we do not begin the hard work of negotiating such an agreement soon, humanity will pay a steep price. In the meantime, in addition to forming joint technical working groups with China, we need to get our own house in order.

For Congress, this means passing laws that prevent AI companies from putting profit over the collective fate of humanity. For American AI labs, this means investing in safety and strengthening their cybersecurity to prevent China from stealing our edge. If lax cybersecurity allows China to obtain our most advanced model weights illicitly, it not only harms our national security, but it also undermines our strongest leverage in pursuit of a U.S.-China AI treaty.

When it comes to catastrophic AI risks, it cannot be America versus China or Republicans versus Democrats. The arrival of superintelligence arguably marks a more consequential moment for our species than even the dawn of the Industrial Revolution or the development of the atomic bomb. While the former transformed society and the latter risked its very destruction, the most advanced forms of AI threaten to do both. Let's come together and keep humanity in the driver's seat.
