NHRA star Ron Capps' funny car explodes, crashes during Arizona Nationals
National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) funny car driver Ron Capps was involved in a scary crash during the Arizona Nationals on Sunday.
Capps’ vehicle came off the starting line fast and in the blink of an eye, the top of his car exploded. He careened across the dividing line and into the left guard wall. Capps was able to get out of his vehicle under his own power.

The NHRA said he was examined by the on-site medical team before he was released.
"It was an unfortunate first round, & we are thankful that @RonCapps28 was able to get out & walk away," Ron Capps Motorsports wrote on X. "The @NHRA Safety Safari was right there, & the safety equipment & chassis did its job. Thanks to our awesome sponsors like @theNAPAnetwork and Toyota we will be in Pomona!"
Capps has 75 wins in a funny car and has made 151 final rounds. He had three wins and was a runner-up four times during the 2023 season. In 2024, he reached the final round in four events but failed to secure a victory.

So far this season, he reached the final round in Gainesville, Florida, in the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals.
Capps finished third in the funny car standings last year. He was behind champion Austin Prock and John Force, who suffered his own scary crash back in June.
Force has been back at the track this season to root for his family members and drivers as he deals with a traumatic brain injury stemming from the crash.

&PLAYER RATINGS | France 2-0 Croatia (agg. 2-2, pens 6-4): Michael Olise-inspired Bleus secure place in Nations League final four
UEFA Nations League, Quarter-finals, 23/03/25
France overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Croatia on penalties (2-0, agg. 2-2, pens 6-4) and secure their place in the final four of the UEFA Nations League.
The MatchIt was France who were chasing the game and that was evident from the first whistle. Croatia came to the Stade de France to sit deep and defend and, by and large, they did that well in the first 45 minutes. Les Bleus were limited to half chances with Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni both striking narrowly off target from inside the box.
It was not until the 38th minute that France had a clear sight on goal. It was Michael Olise who won the ball high, threading through the lively Bradley Barcola, whose first-time effort was saved by the legs of Dominik Livakovic. But it was only so long until Croatia’s negative approach to the match would be punished.
France got one back through Michael Olise, who got his first goal in a France shirt with a sumptuous curled direct free-kick. It was the Bayern Munich forward’s cross that was almost flicked in by Josip Sutalo later in the half. Livakovic was grateful to see the Croatian defender’s deflection fly just wide but he would be picking the ball out of his net once again minutes later.
This time it was Olise the provider, cutting the ball back for Ousmane Dembélé to stroke home first time. Failing to get the winner before the end of the 90 minutes, the game went to extra-time. Les Bleus continued to be the more enterprising with Croatia showing little to no intention of grabbing a goal of their own.
Livaković was kept busy in extra time, making five saves: two from Désiré Doué and three from Mbappé. It was a save from the France captain in the second half of extra-time that was the pick of the bunch as Croatia clung on to force a penalty shootout. Mike Maignan, untested all game, then stepped up to be the hero, saving twice as Croatia missed three penalties.
France weren’t clinical either with Jules Koundé and Theo Hernandez missing, however, Dayot Upamecano stepped up to take the decisive spot-kick at sudden death. Les Bleus will now face Spain in the semi-finals.
France player ratingsMike Maignan – 7
The AC Milan goalkeeper was not asked to do anything in normal time or extra time, however, he certainly stepped up in the penalty shoot-out, making two big saves.
Theo Hernandez – 5
William Saliba – 6
Dayot Upamecano – 6
Jules Koundé – 6
Bradley Barcola – 6
Lively in the first half, getting the better of his opponent, Josip Stanisic, he was the most reliable source of danger before being replaced by debutant Desiré Doué (6) midway through the second half.
Manu Koné – 5
Aurélien Tchouaméni – 6
Michael Olise – 8
A slightly mixed match from the Bayern Munich man. His technical quality was on show throughout, however, his decision-making and synchronicity with his teammates were, at times, lacking, leading to a few wasted opportunities. However, he got his goal and then got the assist. He was the key man in this remontada as he put in his first quality performance in a France shirt.
Kylian Mbappé – 6
A frustrating evening for Mbappé in many ways as his barren run for France continues; the Real Madrid forward now hasn’t scored in his last seven games for Les Bleus. However, it was only Livaković who denied him. The Croatian goalkeeper pulled off three big saves to deny the captain. Despite his lack of luck in front of goal, he was valuable for his side and kept getting in goal-scoring positions.
Ousmane Dembélé – 6
Dembélé’s impressive goalscoring form with PSG converted on the international stage. His decisive, one-touch finish was evocative of many of the goals that he has scored in recent weeks and months. A free-roamer, he dipped in and out but made a crucial impact on this match.

Billy Horschel makes improbable birdie after left-handed shot
PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Billy Horschel hit a 9-iron from near the base of a tree high in the air and onto the green, just like anyone would expect from a PGA Tour player.
Except he hit this shot left-handed.
Horschel delivered a most improbable birdie Sunday in the Valspar Championship when he inverted a 9-iron and hit what otherwise looked to be a normal shot on the par-5 fifth hole. Even sweeter was capping it off by making a 30-foot putt.
Horschel wound up in a tie for fourth.
His theatrics began when he pulled a 3-iron and the ball settled just to the right of a large pine.
“There was no way to hit it but lefty,” Horschel said. “I grabbed a 9-iron hoping it wouldn’t go too far, and I was just hoping to get it up in the air and go straight.”
He also required some gallery control — specifically his young son.
“The funny thing was my little boy was about 50 yards in front of me just to the left on the cart path sitting down, and I had to yell at him to sort of get out of the way because I didn’t know exactly where this thing could go,” Horschel said. “Last thing I need to do is call my wife and tell her I just hit my son with a golf ball.
“Listen, it was a hit-and-hope shot and I pulled it off and to make the putt ... I mean, funny things happen like that.”

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Ethan Kleinschmit struck out six in a season-long seven innings to send sixth-ranked Oregon State to an 8-2 win over Cal Poly Sunday, taking the series at Baggett Stadium.
The lefty scattered five hits and two runs in his sixth outing of the season and was backed by an Oregon State (18-4) offense that took advantage of Cal Poly (14-8) defensive and pitching miscues.
Kleinschmit, who improved to 4-1, saw the Beavers give him a 4-0 lead when the Mustangs committed three errors in the third. OSU scored twice to get on the board first when an Aiva Arquette sacrifice bunt was overthrown at first.
Trent Caraway also drove in a run on a single in the inning, and a second run came through when the ball skipped past the left fielder.
Oregon State went up 6-0 in the fourth on a pair of wild pitches by Cal Poly starter Ethan Marmie.
Cal Poly managed to get its two runs off Kleinschmit in the seventh but solo home runs by Dallas Macias in the eighth inning and Caraway in the ninth pushed the Beavers back to the six-run advantage.
Oregon State finished with 12 hits off three Cal Poly pitchers, which included a game-high by AJ Singer and two each by Caraway, Wilson Weber and Easton Talt.
Marmie was charged with the loss, dropping to 3-2 on the year. He allowed seven hits and six runs in four innings.

Austin FC vs San Diego FC: Man of the match and player grades for MLS matchday 5
First-half goals from Brandon Vazquez and Jon Gallagher held up to give Austin FC a 2-1 win over San Diego FC on Sunday at Q2 Stadium. The Verde & Black missed several scoring opportunities in the match, but with a depleted roster due to several players on national team duty, it's a quality win against a team that hadn't lost this season.
Austin FC is now second in the Western Conference on goal differential. As the Verde & Black (3-2-0, 9 points) head back on the road for another Sunday match against St. Louis City SC next week, here’s our Austin FC man of the match and player ratings for the contest:
Man of the match: Owen WolffFor the second straight week, Wolff was exceptional in all aspects of the game. His heads up play to quickly take a free kick — and the realization by Gallagher to sprint down the field — led to Austin FC's second goal that ultimately gave them the win. Had Austin FC finished better, Wolff would have had several assists as he had several through balls that led to scoring chances. If Wolff continues this high-caliber of play, he's going to get the attention of European clubs sooner rather than later.
Austin FC player ratingsForward: Diego Rubio 6.5, Brandon Vazquez 7
Midfield: Owen Wolff 8.5, Besard Sabovic 6.5, Ilie Sánchez 6.5, Dani Pereira 6.5
Defense: Zan Kolmanic 7, Guilherme Biro 8.5, Brendan Hines-Ike 7, Jon Gallagher 8
Goalie:Brad Stuver 8

March Moment: Temira Poindexter bounces back to lead K-State to Sweet 16
Before Kansas State’s NCAA Tournament Second Round game against Kentucky, head coach Jeff Mittie spoke about needing their secondary players to step up.
As he saw it, the Wildcats wouldn’t beat Kentucky behind only point guard Serena Sundell and center Ayoka Lee. They would need the players around those two to step up and make winning plays.
“You have your assist leader, Serena [Sundell]. You’ve got your center back,” said head coach Jeff Mittie. “All those players around that, we needed moments.”
Among the possible players capable of making that impact was Temira Poindexter.
Although Poindexter has become a “secondary player,” Mittie knew Kentucky would get aggressive guarding Lee. As a result, he told the staff that Poindexter would have a chance to have her moment.
“I told the staff tomorrow is one that Temira is going to have opportunities,” Mittie said. “I believed that we would be able to put her on the backside of the help that was going to be needed to give to Lee.”
That strategy paid off for K-State, as Poindexter had her March moment.
For the entirety of the second half, Poindexter’s three-point shot was nothing short of automatic, making a game-high eight three-pointers to finish with 27 points. Two of those makes came in overtime, helping lead the Wildcats to an 80-79 win over Kentucky to advance to the Sweet 16.
“Everyone on this team knows that she’s a great shooter,” senior guard Jaelyn Glenn said. “I hope she knows she’s a great shooter.”
Although Poindexter finished the game with one of the program's better performances in NCAA Tournament history, she had her fair share of struggles early on. Despite the game plan working as expected, Poindexter couldn’t connect on open looks from three-point range, missing her first five attempts from deep.
While poor shooting nights can tend to discourage a player from shooting, Poindexter kept shooting. And soon, those three-pointers began to hit.
“I kind of was irritated. I was mad; I was sad, all of that, because I wanted to do what I can for my team,” Poindexter said. “But my teammates definitely helped me, and they boosted my confidence. They told me to continue to shoot. So that's what I did.”
For most of the season, Mittie challenged Poindexter and others to keep shooting. It didn’t matter if they missed every one of the shots or made all of them; Mittie wanted them to maintain a shooter's mindset.
That mindset led to some bright moments, but it also led to some heartbreaking moments for Poindexter. None more significant than the Big 12 Championship Quarterfinal, when Poindexter saw a potential game-winning three-pointer hit off the rim and miss.
Although Poindexter finished that game with 16 points, that miss left a nasty taste in her mouth. But it also led to more confidence.
“Missing that shot, it was like a stab in my heart,” said Poindexter. “I definitely took that moment and was like, “I’m going to take it to the next game, and I’m going to use it because I’m going to make the shots in a big moment.”’
Poindexter’s big moment couldn’t have come at a better time, either.
With Ayoka Lee struggling with fouls, the Wildcats needed to find other sources of offense. Serena Sundell stepped up in the first half, finishing with 15 points on eight field goal attempts, but the Wildcats wouldn’t have won this game without another scorer stepping up.
Poindexter being the one to step up shouldn’t be a surprise, but it might be the most significant full-circle moment this season.
While Poindexter is the newest face in K-State’s locker room, she’s considerably impacted games on both sides of the ball. At times, it was her suffocating defense – Poindexter recorded four blocks on Sunday – and other times, it was a timely shot when the team desperately needed one.
However, throughout the entire season, Poindexter’s mission remained the same. She wanted to play in the NCAA Tournament and help K-State advance to the second weekend for the first time since 2002.

Broncos host 3rd-round prospect on pre-draft visit
Even after signing Even Engram during NFL free agency, the Denver Broncos are still doing their homework on tight ends leading up to the 2025 NFL draft.
The latest prospect getting a look from Denver's front office is Texas tight end Gunnar Helm. The Broncos recently brought in Helm for a pre-draft visit, according to a report from KUSA-TV's Mike Klis.
NFL clubs are allowed to host 30 non-local prospects on visits ahead of the draft each spring. Because he is a local prospect from Englewood, Colorado, Helm does not count against Denver's 30-player limit.
Helm (6-5, 241 pounds) had a breakout season with the Longhorns last fall, hauling in 60 receptions for 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games.
Excuse me, Gunnar Helm!?
When I saw this trick play, I thought for sure this pass from Matthew Golden was getting picked off.

Helm also met with the Broncos at the NFL combine. He's projected as a third-round pick, where Denver holds pick No. 85. The NFL draft will be held in Wisconsin from April 24-26.

Nets' D'Angelo Russell, Ziaire Williams questionable Monday vs. Mavs
The Brooklyn Nets (23-48) are on a 3-game losing streak as they were unable to pick up victories against the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers on the most recent road trip. Brooklyn appears to get somewhat of a break as they will be facing a Dallas Mavericks (34-37) team that is just trying to make it through the season, but the Nets could be missing two key players again.
The Nets announced on Sunday that guard D'Angelo Russell and forward Ziaire Williams are questionable for Monday's home game against the Dallas Mavericks with their respective injuries. Russell is dealing with soreness in his right ankle while Williams is dealing with tightness in his right hamstring and the duo recently picked up these injuries.
Russell and Williams did not play in Saturday's 108-103 loss at the Pacers due to their injuries, but head coach Jordi Fernandez said prior to the game that both players were sitting due to precautionary reasons. However, with Russell and Williams listed as questionable, it's possible that their injuries could be more than just precautionary if they are unable to take the floor against the Mavericks.
In the absence of Russell and Williams, Tyrese Martin and Jalen Wilson drew starts next to Keon Johnson, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton in the starting lineup and had decent performances as their replacements. Martin had nine points, four rebounds, and five assists filling in for Russell while Wilson had 13 points and six rebounds in replacement of Williams.
If Russell and Williams are unable to play against Dallas, it is safe to assume that Martin and Wilson will be in the starting lineup on Monday. As mentioned above, the Mavericks are trying to make it to the end of a difficult season as they are experiencing a significant amount of injuries, but Anthony Davis, who the team acquired in the Luka Doncic trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, has been upgraded to doubtful for the first time since he suffered his adductor injury in his first game with Dallas.
Nets say that D'Angelo Russell (right ankle soreness) and Ziaire Williams (right hamstring tightness) are QUESTIONABLE Monday vs. Mavericks.
Reece Beekman, Tyson Etienne, Tosan Evbuomwan, and Dariq Whitehead are in the G League.
For Dallas, Anthony Davis (adductor) is DOUBTFUL.

Internationals: Ruben Dias’ extra-time triumph, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic fall to penalty shootout defeat
It was a night full of drama for City’s international stars with Ruben Dias progressing to the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League but Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol were dismissed at the quarter-final stage.
Portugal entered the second leg of their quarter-final with Denmark a goal down after a 1-0 defeat last week.
But a Joachim Anderson own goal in the first half saw the score level out. Four more goals in the second half – two for each team – meant the scoreline after 90 minutes was 3-3 and extra-time awaited.
Dias continued to be a pivotal figure for his nation, featuring for the full 120 minutes. A penalty shootout was not needed for Portugal who completed the comeback in extra-time with goals from Francisco Trincao and Goncalo Ramos securing Portugal’s place in the final four.
Elsewhere, after Croatia’s 2-0 win over France in the week prior, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic once again featured for their country and hoped to help their country progress to the semi-finals of the Nations League.
Both started in what was an intense game against France. But, late goals from Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele sent the game to extra-time, which Kovacic and Gvardiol were replaced either side of.
They watched on as France won the penalty shootout 5-4 after no decisive goal was found in extra time.
Their games were the final international fixtures of the March window with the players set to return to City in the coming days to begin preparation for our FA Cup trip to Bournemouth.
Dawn Staley explains why she sat star MiLaysia Fulwiley for much of South Carolina win vs Indiana
COLUMBIA — South Carolina women's basketball sophomore star MiLaysia Fulwiley averages 19.3 minutes per game this season but on Sunday, she played just 10.
In the 64-53 win over No. 9 seed Indiana (20-13) in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Fulwiley played the third-fewest minutes on the Gamecocks (32-3) and played her third fewest all season. The last time Fulwiley played less than 17 minutes was on Jan. 27 against Tennessee (nine).
Coach Dawn Staley explained why.
"No, no," Staley said when asked if there was anything going on with Fulwiley. "I thought she got off to a slow start then it was hard, we had good combinations in and usually it's Fulwiley out there. It just didn't happen today. I thought she handled it well, she wants to play, we need her to play, we need her to play well and it wasn't anything besides just units out there playing better."
With the win, South Carolina advances to the Sweet 16 to play either No. 4 Maryland or No. 5 Alabama on Friday at either 2:30 or 5 p.m. ET (ESPN) in Birmingham, Alabama.
Fulwiley, who averages 12.1 points, finished with three points, two steals, one rebound, one block and one assist in her 10 minutes. She came off the bench with 4:16 to play in the first quarter and less than 30 seconds later got a steal but missed the proceeding jumper. She finished out the opening quarter on the court and picked up another steal, dished an assist and got a block, which kept her on the court to start the second.
She turned the ball over with 9:25 left in the second quarter and then subbed out by the nine-minute mark, not returning to the game again until 3:01 left in the third.
Bree Hall and Te-Hina Paopao, the two guards who Fulwiley normally subs in for, led the team. Hall had a team-high 11 points and Paopao had a team-high four blocks, and according to Staley, were huge in the comeback win.
After checking in to close the third, Fulwiley subbed back out with 8:31 left in the game and didn't go back in.
When Paopao hit a critical 3-pointer with 4:45 left in the game, Fulwiley was the first person on the bench to get up and celebrate.

Nuggets expect Nikola Jokic to return to the lineup during upcoming 5-game homestand
HOUSTON (AP) — Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is expected to return to the Denver lineup during the team's upcoming five-game homestand, coach Michael Malone said Sunday.
Jokic missed his fourth straight game Sunday, sitting out against the Rockets in Houston due to a left ankle impingement. He was not expected to play Monday when Denver's homestand starts against the Chicago Bulls, Malone said.
“He’s going to play in Denver, the five-game homestand,” Malone said. "He’ll play at some point, hopefully in that five-game homestand. Obviously, he’s not playing today (Sunday). I don’t think he’ll play tomorrow (Monday). We’re just trying to get home and kind of see where he’s at.”
The Nuggets take on Milwaukee on Wednesday, Utah on Friday and Minnesota on April 1 before wrapping up the homestand a night later, against the San Antonio Spurs.
Jokic, a three-time MVP, is averaging 29.1 points, 12.8 rebounds and 10.3 assists this season. The Nuggets are 1-2 in the last three games without Jokic.
With 11 games remaining in the regular season, Malone said he would like to have his starting lineup back before the playoffs begin.
“It would be great to have a chance to get the starting five some run together, because we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to do that this season,” Malone said.
