Caleb Lomu Shatters Rookie Tackle Grades After Injury Surge
Eric Canha-Imagn ImagesThe biggest surprise in the Patriots’ 26-19 win over the Jets isn’t the final score. It is the performance of a rookie who wasn’t supposed to play this much. Caleb Lomu, the 28th overall pick, now holds the top pass-blocking grade among all rookie tackles in the NFL. This comes after injuries to starters Will Campbell and Morgan Moses forced the 21-year-old into the spotlight during Sunday’s game.
Lomu was drafted to sit on the bench behind veteran Morgan Moses and Will Campbell. The team traded up four spots to get the 6-foot-6, 313-pound tackle from Utah. He was expected to be a backup depth piece for heavy sets. Instead, he became the most effective pass protector on the offensive line. Per Sports Illustrated, Lomu earned an 80.2 pass-blocking grade through six weeks. That number leads the entire rookie class. His pass-blocking efficiency sits at a 98.0, which is also the highest mark for any rookie tackle.
The Injury OpportunityCampbell suffered a knee injury and Moses dealt with a foot issue in the past two games. These setbacks gave Lomu extended playing time on the right side. He played out of position since he lined up at left tackle in college. Despite the switch, he dominated his new role. Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the situation after Sunday’s game. “I hate when guys get injured, but I also understand that on the other side of that, there’s an opportunity,” Vrabel said. He added, “You never know what’s going to happen in this league, and we talk about it all the time, preparing for the journey.”
Lomu knew this day could come before the season even started. Marcus Bryant was slated to be the sixth offensive lineman, but Bryant has been sidelined for most of the year. This opened the door for Lomu to take more snaps. Lomu explained his mindset on filling in for injured starters. “It does happen, unfortunately, in this league. Everyone’s got to prepare like a starter for those types of things that happen,” Lomu said. The team traded up to get him for a reason, and now that reason is showing up in the stats.
Winning With a Patchwork LineThe offensive line looked ragged, yet the team secured the victory. Pats Pulpit noted the strange lineup that defeated the Jets. Despite starting a rookie at right tackle, a third-string guard on one side, and a fourth-string guard on the other, the Patriots ran the ball effectively. The free-agent fullback was even on injured reserve. Steve Balestrieri issued a Week 6 report card with a simple message: “Never apologize for a win.” The receivers got demerits for their struggles, but the line held up enough to get the job done.
DeMario Douglas stepped up at receiver while Romeo Doubs sits on injured reserve. Despite committing a fumble against the Jets, Douglas caught three touchdowns over the last two games. He acknowledged the team needs to fix its errors. “I feel like we’ve just got to learn. We can learn from our mistakes,” he said postgame.
Lomu’s rise proves the depth chart is deeper than it looked on paper. He is now the right tackle of New England’s future, according to the data. The Patriots face the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. Lomu must maintain these grades while protecting Drake Maye.
Paul George scores 38 points in a losing debut with the Celtics
DETROIT, MICHIGAN - OCTOBER 20: Paul George #13 of the Boston Celtics reacts after a second half three point basket against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on October 20, 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images) Gregory ShamusDETROIT (AP) — Paul George looks like he’s still got it.
He scored 38 points — the most by a Boston Celtic in his debut, and the fifth-most by a player in his first game with an NBA franchise — in a 121-113 collapsing defeat Tuesday.
“I’m not a moral victory guy,” George said after making 12 of 21 shots, including 7 of 12 3-pointers. “It means nothing.”
Maybe not, but the nine-time All-Star was impressive and earned a spot in rarified air.
The NBA scoring record for a debut was set by Kyrie Irving in 2019, when he had 50 with the Brooklyn Nets.
Kiki Vandeweghe had 47 points in his first game with Portland in 1984, Wilt Chamberlain scored 43 points in his NBA debut with Philadelphia in 1959 and Damian Lillard had 39 points in his Milwaukee debut in 2023.
George, in his 17th season, was acquired in a trade with the 76ers last summer in exchange for 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.
Even though George wasn’t celebrating his performance due to the loss, the 36-year-old forward was encouraged by his health.
Injuries — and a 25-game suspension for flunking a drug test — limited him to 37 and 41 games the last two regular seasons with the Sixers.
During training camp with the Celtics, George said his legs felt heavy and winded.
In Game 1 with his fifth team, he didn’t know what to respect.
“It’s hard to know until the lights come on,” George said. “It was a rough camp for me.”
He looked smooth in Motown in 31 minutes with five steals, five rebounds and three assists.
“It was a thing to watch,” teammate Derrick White said. “He got hot and we tried to find him.”
The Celtics found George early in the third quarter, leading to him making three 3-pointers in less than a minute to put them ahead 72-50.
Boston then became the fifth team in 30 seasons to lose a season-opening game after leading by 22 points allowed Detroit to earn the biggest comeback win in a league opener since 1997.
“If we’re in the driver’s seat like that, we’ll learn how to close out games,” George said.
George certainly did his part.
“He was unbelievable,” Jayson Tatum said.
Tatum, meanwhile, was off his game.
The six-time All-Star missed 17 of 23 shots had 13 points and 11 assists. His lack of hustle on defense allowed Javonte Green to take his time for a fifth 3-pointer that gave the Pistons a 13-point lead with 3:33 left that capped a 23-0 run.
George, though, gave the Celtics a lot to like.
“Just his comfort level,” reigning NBA Coach of the Year Joe Mazzulla said. ”The game found him, he made some great reads throughout the game. It was good. He was able to find advantages for himself and others, we just have to continue that.

NASCAR Penalizes Zane Smith After Carson Hocevar Phoenix Incident
NASCAR penalizes Zane Smith after Phoenix incident with Carson Hocevar. GettyZane Smith has been penalized by NASCAR following a post-race incident involving Carson Hocevar last Sunday at Phoenix. The driver of the No. 38 was fined $50,000 for a safety infraction at the conclusion of the Cup Series Freeway Insurance 500.
Following the checkered flag of Sunday’s race, Smith rammed into the back of Hocevar’s No. 77 Chevrolet, expressing displeasure for previous on-track contact during the race.
Details Regarding Zane Smith’s Phoenix PenaltyMotorsports insider Jeff Gluck was one of the first to report the news of NASCAR handing down a fine to Smith for his post-race actions at Phoenix.
“NASCAR penalty report is out and it shows Zane Smith has been fined $50,000 for ramming into Carson Hocevar after the Phoenix race,” Gluck wrote via X.
During the final run of the 312-lap race, Ross Chastain made contact with Hocevar entering turn 3, sending the latter up the racetrack and into the back of Smith’s No. 38. Despite the initial contact from Chastain, Smith was furious with Hocevar.
After running into the back of Hocevar on the cool-down lap, Smith was made aware over the team radio about what actually unfolded.
“Just so you know, the 1 (Chastain) was apparently the one that shipped the 77 (Hocevar) into us.”
However, Smith was not in the mood to hear otherwise.
“I don’t give a [expletive],” Smith said.
Smith’s frustration was acknowledged by a member of his team over the radio as they said:
“Yeah, I figured. I was just letting you know.”
One week prior, Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. tangled after the Cup Series race at Charlotte. Stenhouse side-swiped McDowell’s No. 71 Chevrolet on the cool-down lap.
In retaliation, McDowell hooked Stenhouse’s No. 47 Chevrolet, spinning him up the racetrack in turn 3.
Despite the post-race scuffle on-track, neither driver was penalized by NASCAR. Given that Smith hit Hocevar at a decent rate of speed, NASCAR perhaps saw what happened on Sunday at Phoenix differently than what unfolded at Charlotte.

Vikings Gets Major Injury News on Addison, 3 Other Key Starters Ahead of Colts Game
TAMPA, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 27: Jordan Addison #3 of the Minnesota Vikings celebrates his touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the first half at Raymond James Stadium on September 27, 2026 in Tampa, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images) GettyThe Minnesota Vikings are undefeated, coming off a bye week and trending in the right direction health-wise as they prepare to host a hapless Indianapolis Colts team in Week 7 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters on Tuesday, October 20 that all four of the Vikings’ starting offensive players currently dealing with considerable injury concerns are likely to practice in some capacity on Wednesday.
“Jordan Mason, TJ Hockenson, Christian Darrisaw and Jordan Addison are all expected to return to practice tomorrow for the #Vikings, KOC mentioned via @KFAN1003,” the VikingzFanPage X account reported. “Bye week came at the right time.”
Addison, the team’s No. 2 wide receiver, has been dealing with a hamstring issue. Meanwhile Mason, the Vikings’ primary rusher from the running back position, is coming back off the injured reserve list (IR) due to a thumb fracture he sustained in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.
Both Darrisaw, the starting left tackle, and Hockenson, Minnesota’s No. 1 tight end, are returning from concussions. Darrisaw suffered his against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4 and a history with that specific injury. Hockenson went down with a concussion against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 just ahead of the Vikings’ bye.

Bears' Caleb Williams could miss out on MVP for one reason
Bears' Caleb Williams could miss out on MVP for one reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears is having the kind of run that could earn him the MVP award, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. There's a lot of football left to play, and one major factor could keep him out of the race.
In a feature released on Tuesday, Ben Solak of ESPN notes that Williams could certainly be up for the honor, but missing time is a huge detriment to his chances of winning it. In the piece, he predicts that Williams "will end up an MVP candidate who missed too much time."
Caleb Williams' MVP hopes could survive his missed games, but the Bears quarterback still has a major hurdle to overcomeIn the piece, Solak makes the case that if Williams keeps performing well while putting up the big numbers he's bringing to the table, the NFL won't be able to ignore him, even with the missed time.
He says that if Williams "continues to play high-percentage ball while adding the playmaking ability afforded by his legs and authoring a couple of heroic late-game throws in high-leverage spots, then he's going to look like an MVP by December. And we will all be forced to reconcile with the missed games and whatever other narratives have developed about the other candidates since."
But the MVP race is always a tough one, so missing three games could hurt. One positive is that Williams missed those games early in the season, so Solak notes that voters may almost forget he was out by the time voting rolls around. If the Bears go deep in the playoffs, that would obviously help his case, too.
More NFL news:Ohio State faces a major test without Julian Sayin
Ohio State faces a major test without Julian Sayin originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin has been ruled out indefinitely. Ryan Day announced the news Tuesday.
Sayin sustained the injury Saturday in the 19-15 win over No. 6 Indiana after a hit from Mario Landino. Landino came from around the edge and delivered a killing blow to Sayin's throwing shoulder.
True freshman Luke Fahey took over after Sayin's injury and went 0-for-2. Tavien St. Clair Jr. and Fahey will both get first-team reps in practice.
Ryan Day confirms Ohio State QB Julian Sayin is out indefinitely following this hit against Indiana on Saturday https://t.co/Xetd4MdQ4w
— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) October 20, 2026There's no doubt Sayin is the guy at quarterback, and head coach Ryan Day understands how important he is to the offense.
“This is all bigger than just one person,” Day said post-game. “Certainly we don’t want to see him get hurt, and we need him. At the same time, we’ll come together and figure this out. We’ve got a good team. When Luke’s in there, we just may need to do things just a little bit differently, but the bye week gives us a chance to regroup on that and put our heads together.”
Sayin has 2,007 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, four interceptions, completes 68.2% of his passes this year, and was back in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
Before exiting the game against Indiana, Sayin had two touchdown passes and boosted the Buckeyes' lead to 12.
Sayin has no return date, but the Buckeyes are preparing for the rest of the season and playoffs without him, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Ohio State still has five games remaining on the schedule and faces 16th-ranked USC, a new and improved 24th-ranked Northwestern, and The Game against Michigan.
The Buckeyes head into a bye week before deciding their next steps without Sayin, as they face USC on Saturday, October 31 (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC).

Kentucky defensive spotlights in road win over Oklahoma
Kentucky football moved to 6-1 and are now ranked 12th in the country after defeating Oklahoma on the road. It was impressive to see the Wildcats win a low-scoring defensive game script, which is a style of game that haven't faced all season. I thought Kentucky's defense had their best performance of the season, they were leaky at times in the first half but they really flipped the switch in the second half of this game. Here are a few defensive players that stood out and made an impact on Kentucky leaving Norman with a win.
Ty BryantTy Bryant continues to find the football and be a ball hawk on the back end. Bryant is a veteran leader of this defense and he always capitalizes on errant throws. His first interception was an assist from Mi'Quise Humphrey-Grace that looked like an arm punt from John Mateer. Bryant then caught the game sealing interception on a deep ball over the middle.
Jordan CastellWe spoke all offseason on how critical this experienced safety duo would be for Jay Bateman's defense, and Castell has been one of the most consistent transfers on the team this season. Castell is a sure tackler like Ty Bryant and he has ball hawking traits as well. Castell had a pass breakup in the red zone and intercepted the horribly attempted jump pass fake field goal from the Oklahoma punter. The biggest play of the game was Castell's pick six, he read the eyes of Mateer and jumped the pass to take it back to extend the lead late for Kentucky.
Mi'Quise Humphrey-GraceMi'Quise Humphrey-Grace is one of the most consistent players on this defense, he shows up every Saturday and makes big time plays. Against Oklahoma, he got a quick win on the edge and got his hand on Mateer's arm mid-release which set up an easy interception for Ty Bryant. This was a critical play as the Sooners were driving up six points, and this really swung the momentum to Kentucky's favor. Humphrey-Grace batted a ball at the line of scrimmage, he also had 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss on Saturday.
Tavion GadsonTavion Gadson needs to play with more consistency, but man he is dangerous on the inside when it all comes together. Gadson is one of the most underrated defensive tackles in the country and he has incredible pass rush tools for his size. He was active against Oklahoma and creating negative plays by defeating his blocks quickly against guards. Gadson finished the game with eight tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss and he also batted a ball down at the line of scrimmage.

49ers Release Veteran Defender Hours After Win vs. Commanders
The 49ers have released veteran defensive tackle Naquan Jones in the wake of their win over the Commanders Getty
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - OCTOBER 11: Head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers looks on during the first quarter against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on October 11, 2026 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Steph Chambers/Getty Images) GettyThe San Francisco 49ers managed to overcome another batch of injuries in Week 6 to hand the Washington Commanders a 23-17 defeat on Monday Night Football. What the Niners have done through six games is wildly impressive, but it is beginning to reach a point where their injury woes are becoming tough to overcome.
As a result, the front office is constantly looking for ways to tweak its roster to meet the needs of its team. Shortly after beating the Commanders, the 49ers decided to make an immediate change, as the team opted to release veteran defensive tackle Naquan Jones on Tuesday afternoon.
49ers Release Naquan Jones After Commanders WinThe 49ers are releasing veteran DT Naquan Jones, per source. San Francisco needed a roster spot, and now Jones — who's vested and not subject to waivers — is a free agent.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) October 20, 2026Jones is in his sixth NFL season, and he was brought to town earlier this season in an effort to help shore up San Fran’s defensive line. The 49ers managed to steal Jones off of the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, and he ended up playing in three games for his new team, racking up a pair of tackles.
Against Washington, Jones didn’t play, so the writing was on the wall for him when it came to his time with the team. While the Niners are very banged up in the injury department, they have several guys close to making their return from injuries, so the team needed a roster spot.
The guy who ended up being let go was Jones, as San Fran feels comfortable with its current defensive line construction. With an open roster spot now, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the front office make a corresponding injury move in the near future.
The 49ers are releasing veteran DT Naquan Jones, per source,” Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reported in a post on X. “San Francisco needed a roster spot, and now Jones — who’s vested and not subject to waivers — is a free agent.”
49ers Look to Remain Undefeated in Week 7
GettySEATTLE, WASHINGTON – OCTOBER 11: Head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers looks on during the first quarter against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on October 11, 2026 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Steph Chambers/Getty Images)
Jones didn’t necessarily do much during his time in town, but he still managed to fill a hole for San Francisco during a time when it desperately needed some help. With the 49ers getting a little bit healthier, there simply wasn’t a need for Jones, so he will hit the free agent market and look to find a new home ahead of Week 7.
As for the Niners, they will look to continue their undefeated start to the 2026 campaign when they square off against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Falcons have been one of the more confusing teams in the league, as they have the capacity to explode for points, but they don’t always manage to play up to their potential. With several players close to overcoming their injury woes, look for San Francisco to earn its seventh straight victory when it returns to action.

NBA season tips off with Pistons rallying to beat Celtics 121-113, spoiling Paul George’s debut
DETROIT, MICHIGAN - OCTOBER 20: Paul George #13 of the Boston Celtics drives to the basket against Ausar Thompson #9 of the Detroit Pistons during the first half at Little Caesars Arena on October 20, 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images) Gregory ShamusDETROIT (AP) — Javonte Green scored 19 points after not playing in the first half and Cade Cunningham finished with 22 points and eight assists, helping the Detroit Pistons come back and beat the Boston Celtics 121-113 on Tuesday.
The NBA picked the matinee matchup to tip off the season and it delivered plenty of entertainment.
Paul George scored 38 points, the most by a Celtic in his debut. The nine-time All-Star, in his 17th season, showed he’s still got it in his first game with Boston since it acquired him from Philadelphia in exchange for 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.
Jayson Tatum, though, was off his game.
He missed 17 of 23 shots had 13 points and 11 assists. His lack of hustle on defense allowed Green to take his time for a fifth 3-pointer that gave the Pistons a 13-point lead with 3:33 left.
Tatum, a six-time All-Star, is set to play his first full season since tearing his Achilles tendon in May 2025.
Boston took its biggest lead early in the third quarter at 72-50 after George made three 3-pointers in less than a minute.
Detroit cut its deficit to six points after three quarters and surged ahead in the fourth. Green made a go-ahead 3, Duren added a three-point play and Robinson connected on a 3 to put the Pistons ahead 107-99 with 5:10 to go.
Jalen Duren had 22 points and nine rebounds, Duncan Robinson scored 21 points — making 5 of 9 3-pointers — and Ausar Thompson added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons.
Boston’s Derrick White and Payton Pritchard scored 17 points apiece.

How does Rams’ depth chart look post-injuries?

Just when fans were getting hopes up for a return of Myles Garrett, the Los Angeles Rams were hit with a wave of injuries unlike anything they’ve seen in a single week since 2022. Garrett is not going to return this week and Sean McVay can’t give any updates on when he might return, while Terrance Ferguson isn’t going to come back to practice yet either. Trent McDuffie’s status is unclear.
The Rams announced once clear replacement for one of those injuries, which is Brandon McManus as the new kicker to replace Blake Grupe.
How else will the Rams look different when they face the Las Vegas Raiders?
WR Davante Adams – OUTWR Konata Mumpfield – INNobody is saying that Mumpfield will “replace” Adams in a production or value sense, and nobody’s saying that McVay should not increase snaps or reps for Tutu Atwell and other options, including C.J. Daniels. But merely on the depth chart, player to player, Mumpfield is the next man up to start in place of Adams moving forward.
Konata Mumpfield needs to be a PRIORITY on waivers this week.
He’s my No. 2 target heading into Week 7.
112 routes this season.
3rd among Rams WRs.
50+ ahead of the next WR.
When Puka Nacua missed time against Denver in Week 3?
8 targets
4 catches
93 yards
1 touchdown… pic.twitter.com/2iMwLZprvP
Adams gave Mumpfield a shoutout in the offseason as a receiver to watch out for, and now the second-year wideout gets to prove himself in that exact role.
A seventh-round pick in 2025, Mumpfield has 127 yards on eight catches. 48 of those yards came on a play where it didn’t even feel like he was covered, he just juked someone out of position a little bit and the wheel route was on. Mumpfield has 178 snaps compared to 107 for Jordan Whittington.
Expect Atwell to be active, but what about Daniels? Or is Daniels active but not Atwell? Don’t put any decision past McVay.
DT Kobie Turner – OUTDT Tyler Davis – INDavis should be stout against the run, but won’t provide the same pass rushing presence as Turner. He has limited moves in his arsenal and below-average length.
The depth of the Rams' defensive front is what's staggering …
• Myles Garrett, Byron Young, Josaiah Stewart on the edge.
• Aaron Donald, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske as attacking interior d-linemen.
• Poona Ford and Tyler Davis as capable run-stuffing nose tackles.
The Rams went into the season as a “super group” on the defensive line. Now they’re down to Byron Young as perhaps the only healthy player with a good track record who is having a good season.
Davis has played 146 snaps this season and he has 15 tackles. He had 43 tackles last season and he has 1.5 sacks in 2.5 years. The Rams must continue to seek other options on the defensive line.
NT Poona Ford – OUTNT – Ty Hamilton- INHamilton is another defensive lineman with a reputation for run defense, but not pass rushing ability. At least in this case, he’s replacing another player who can’t rush the passer. In fact, Ford might be the worst pass rusher at the nose tackle position in the entire league.
Hamilton has great power and leverage but he has limited pass rushing moves and is known to over-pursue when he gets the chance to play, which is rarely.
Ty Hamilton is a DT prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 9.21 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 160 out of 2022 DT from 1987 to 2025.https://t.co/9QBkjJTkPPpic.twitter.com/OJqyWZePkF
— RAS.football (@MathBomb) April 1, 2025The Rams also have Larrell Murchison but he’s only appeared in one game. That’s sure to change.
On the practice squad, the Rams have Bill Norton and Jaxson Moi.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, teams seeking WR help believe that Brown could be traded in the coming weeks.
“Sources: #Eagles WR Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown is a name that teams seeking WR help believe could be traded in the coming weeks,” Schultz wrote on X. “Brown is healthy, has a 1,000-yard season on his résumé and recorded 49 catches for 587 yards and 5 TDs with the Chiefs last season. He hasn’t had much of an opportunity in Philadelphia.”
Over Brown’s previous seven seasons since entering the league as a first-round pick back in 2019, he’s racked up 371 catches for 4,322 yards and 33 touchdowns.
Perhaps this is the opportunity Las Vegas has been waiting for in regard to bringing in more help at wide receiver.
Raiders Trade Pitch Brings in Eagles Wide Receiver Hollywood Brown

For one, trading for a receiver who hasn’t played in a regular-season game this season wouldn’t garner a premium draft pick.
In fact, thinking about this with a glass-half-full mentality, the Raiders would likely only have to send a sixth-round pick or even just one seventh-rounder to the Eagles to acquire Hollywood Brown.
He’s still just 29 years old and would provide a field-stretcher type of player at WR. “I’m faster than I’ve ever been,” Brown said back in August. “I feel like I’m playing that way, for sure.”
This could be one of many trades the Raiders make. Something to keep in mind.
Other Potential Wide Receiver Targets

If the Raiders want to go another route in terms of trading for a wide receiver, the most intriguing name out there that could be traded is Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr., who CBS Sports’ Carter Bahns believes Las Vegas should trade for.
“The ideal fits for Thomas are either a team that would benefit from his price as he remains on a rookie contract or a team that would make him a long-term centerpiece if he rekindles his 2023 success,” Bahns wrote. “The Las Vegas Raiders fit the latter criteria. Their wide receiver depth is nonexistent, and there is no clear No. 1 weapon in the room.”
If not, FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano has noted that multiple NFL sources believe a few other wide receivers could end up on the trade block, which include Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin, Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston, and Cleveland Browns WR Jerry Jeudy.
“There are a lot of receivers with size, talent, speed that, for whatever reason, don’t seem to be in their team’s plans anymore,” one team executive told Vacchiano. “And some of them aren’t going to cost a lot more than a Day 3 pick. If you need help [at that position], the upside could be high. Sometimes a change of scenery works.”

‘There must be a full investigation’: Players union refuses to move on from Jalen Hurts situation

Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn ImagesThe Philadelphia Eagles have faced plenty of questions over how they handled star quarterback Jalen Hurts’ blood clot, which went undisclosed as he traveled to London, played against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and flew back home. The NFL appears ready to move on from the situation, but the players’ union isn’t.
On Tuesday night, the NFL Players Association released a statement calling for a “full investigation” into the medical care Hurts received. The union also revealed that the league had told it that it did not plan to review the situation.
Hurts’ Blood ClotHurts sought treatment on his calf on Oct. 8 before the Eagles flew to London. He was listed with a calf injury on the injury report but was a full participant in practice.
On Oct. 10, a superficial blood clot was found in his left calf during a visit to the Cleveland Clinic in London. Hurts was cleared to play the next day and played the entire game in the Eagles’ 19-17 loss to the Jaguars before flying home with the team that night.
A follow-up ultrasound on Oct. 14 revealed that the clot had moved, and Hurts was eventually placed on injured reserve. Then on Monday, the Eagles announced that his diagnosis had been updated to deep vein thrombosis “as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli,” meaning there were now clots in both of his lungs.
The team said that Hurts’ prognosis is “very good,” but he’s expected to miss the rest of the season while on blood thinners.
Despite the questions surrounding the situation, the NFL has concluded that the process that led to Hurts being cleared to play in London “was handled appropriately,” according to The Athletic. The league will not punish the Eagles.
The NFL also released a statement on Tuesday, saying it had been in contact with the Eagles’ medical staff and the Cleveland Clinic throughout the process.
‘There must be a full investigation’While the NFL might be looking to move on from the situation, NFLPA isn’t ready to do that just yet. In fact, the union is demanding a “full investigation” into the matter.
“The NFLPA is not aware of any NFL investigation into the medical care provided to Jalen Hurts,” the union said in a statement, via Pro Football Talk. “In fact, the league previously informed the union that it did not plan to review the care he received.”
“Before conclusions are drawn about how this situation was handled, there must be a full investigation into what occurred,” the statement continued. “Determining the facts is essential to ensuring players receive the highest level of care and protection going forward.”
We’ll have to see whether or not the league does decide

The No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes managed to fend off the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers to earn a 19-15 victory in Week 7. However, it may have come at the expense of quarterback Julian Sayin, who suffered a right elbow injury in the fourth quarter of that contest.
Head coach Ryan Day informed media members on Tuesday that the junior signal-caller is out indefinitely with the injury in his throwing arm, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“Ohio State coach Ryan Day said that QB Julian Sayin is out indefinitely,” Thamel reported. “There’s a plan being put in place for Sayin not being available for both the regular season and postseason. He said there’s no specific timeline on the recovery. He’s dealing with an injury on his throwing arm.”

Day admitted that he and his program are preparing for the worst, as Thamel said in his report. The 47-year-old said that he and Ohio State are giving Sayin and his family privacy to deal with the injury before explaining how the Buckeyes plan to move forward, per Dillon Davis of the Delaware Gazette.
“So, first off, we’re not gonna put a timeline on [Julian Sayin’s] recovery, but he is out indefinitely,” Day said to media members. “And so, what we’re trying to do is give Julian and his family the space and privacy to go through this process.
“But based on the nature of the injury, we are putting together a plan for him not being available for the regular season and then also him not being available for the postseason,” Day continued. “So, based on that, if he’s not able to return next fall, we’ll put together a plan for that as well.”
Ryan Day said Julian Sayin will out be out indefinitely, and they’re putting a plan together to move forward as if he’s not gonna be available again for Ohio State.

Julian Sayin appeared in seven games for the Buckeyes this season. He was continuing his success with the program after finishing the 2025-26 campaign in the Heisman Trophy race. The 21-year-old has accumulated 2,007 passing yards and 19 touchdowns (leading the Big Ten for now) while completing 68.2% of his pass attempts this year.
Ohio State is likely to turn to true freshman Luke Fahey, who stepped in for Sayin after the injury against Indiana. Fahey has appeared in four games this year and has thrown for 203 yards for two touchdowns and two interceptions with a 69.2% completion percentage.

Alpine's Tire Mystery Explained After Gasly Loses Points in Singapore
Alpine still hasn't found the formula to turn its one-lap speed into race results. The French team that achieved an excellent fourth row in the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying saw its chances to score points vanish in the final laps because of a recurring problem: tire degradation. Pierre Gasly, who had run tenth for seven laps from the end, lost ten seconds to Liam Lawson and fourteen to Isack Hadjar, falling out of the points zone.
"On a circuit with many low-speed corners and a lot of traction, we simply ran out of tires after three laps. In qualifying, the tires are cold and don't have time to heat up much over a single lap. In the race, as soon as you get in the car, the feeling is good- one lap, two laps but on the third lap our temperatures skyrocket, and we no longer have traction. We know it's a limitation of the car, but I expected something better," Gasly explained.
Colapinto Warns His Fans: 'You Are Not Helping Me'The Argentine driver posted a video on his networks to ask his followers to stop attacking mechanics, engineers and rivals. The problem is not new, but at Marina Bay it became more evident than ever. The key is in the rims chosen by Alpine for this event: the A526 mounted closed rims, a solution that, in theory, helps to heat the front tires on a circuit where it is difficult to transmit energy to the compounds; however, if temperatures are not controlled, the effect is counterproductive: the pressure rises as the contact surface is reduced and wear skyrockets.
"I think it's quite clear what we have to work on; we know why we have some of these problems related to the rims we are using. The question is that, on a circuit like this, it costs us enormously," the Frenchman admitted. The comparison with Nico Hülkenberg, who kept George Russell at bay in the final phase, is revealing. The Audi driver, with a theoretically inferior car, knew how to better manage his tires and defend his position; Gasly, on the other hand, could not exit the corners without the rear sliding: "Sometimes I was even faster than Nico, but I couldn't get out of the corners well; every time I stepped on the accelerator, I went sideways, and I couldn't recover on the straight," he lamented.
Alpine & Colapinto’s Double Retirement: ‘Didn’t Go as We Expected'The French team looks into the causes of the failures that kept the Argentine out of the Sprint and the Marina Bay race. This year, teams have invested heavily in developing the rims, to the point that Pirelli has observed significant differences not only compared to last season, but also among the teams themselves, with Alpine making it a priority to find the right operating window. The team needs to understand why its tires overheat so quickly in the race and how it can mitigate that effect without sacrificing one-lap speed.
Gasly and his teammate, Franco Colapinto, face the final stretch of the season, hoping Alpine finds a solution. The A526's potential is there, as the qualifiers show, but a lack of race-day consistency weighs on its aspirations; if the team solves the mystery of the rims, it could make an important leap in quality in the final races. Meanwhile, the season moves on, and points slip away; the next event in Austin will be a new chance to see whether Alpine has found a way to tame its black beast.
