Pelicans exercise options on former 1st-round picks Missi, Fears and Queen

Yahoo Sports - 17 hours 24 min ago

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans have exercised a fourth-year option on third-year center Yves Missi, as well as third-year options on both of their 2025 first-round draft picks: guard Jeremiah Fears and forward Derik Queen.

The moves, announced Tuesday, were expected as Missi is the club's projected starting center this season, while both Fears and Queen produced while receiving ample playing time as rookies in the team's first season with Joe Dumars serving as executive vice president of basketball operations.

Missi, drafted 21st overall out of Baylor in the 2024, has appeared in 139 games with 81 starts, averaging 7.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 23.4 minutes per game.

He has 19 career double-doubles.

Fears, drafted seventh overall out of Oklahoma in 2025, played in all 82 games games as a rookie with 49 starts.

Named to the NBA's All-Rookie second team, Fears scored in double-figures 59 times, including 17 games with 20 or more points. He finished the season with averages of 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 25.8 minutes per game.

Queen, drafted 13th overall out of Maryland in 2025, also was named NBA All-Rookie second team last season after averaging 11.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 81 games. He started 48 games and played about 25 minutes per game.

Queen recorded two triple doubles last season, the only rookie with more than one.

The Pelicans open the regular season Wednesday night at home against the Indiana Pacers.

How many games can Michigan win the rest of regular season if Tommy Carr is QB1?

Yahoo Sports - 17 hours 24 min ago
ANN ARBOR, MI - SEPTEMBER 19: Michigan Wolverines quarterback Tommy Carr (14) calls out play signals during a play during a regular season non-conference college football game between the UTEP Miners and the Michigan Wolverines on September 19, 2026 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NCAA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Michigan fans and fans across the country.

The 4-2 Michigan Wolverines made a change at quarterback at halftime last week. Tommy Carr relieved Bryce Underwood of his duties and put points on the scoreboard. Carr entered the game versus Penn State with Michigan trailing 3-0, and the Wolverines would go on to win the game 21-18. Carr was 5-of-7 for 47 yards with four carries for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham hasn’t said who will be Michigan’s starting quarterback this Saturday versus Indiana, but also said there’s a “secret” plan in place. Carr looked plenty good enough to warrant a start this weekend, and it seems fairly easy to predict he’ll be on the field over Underwood on Saturday.

In this edition of SB Nation Reacts, we’re asking how many wins Michigan will have the rest of the season if Carr is QB1. Vote below.

Here’s a look at Michigan’s six remaining matchups and their chances of winning each game, according to ESPN Analytics.

  • Oct. 24 vs. No. 6 Indiana: 17.8% chance of winning
  • Oct. 31 at Rutgers: 80.8% chance of winning
  • Nov. 7 vs. Michigan State: 77.3% chance of winning
  • Nov. 14 at Oregon: 18.3% chance of winning
  • Nov. 21 vs. UCLA: 61.7% chance of winning
  • Nov. 28 at Ohio State: 8.4% chance of winning

ESPN Analytics give Michigan way too low a chance versus Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State. Oregon QB Dante Moore has been out for weeks, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin could be out for the season, and Indiana looks more vulnerable than they did a season ago when they won the national championship. Could Michigan win out and go 10-2? Yes. Could they also lose a few of these? Yes. However, Carr could be the spark Michigan needed to make a run. There seems to be optimism that Michigan can indeed have a strong second half of the season. It’ll have to start with a win on Saturday.

How did you vote this week? Let us know in the comments.

Ryan Day Reveals Concerning Julian Sayin Injury Update

Yahoo Sports - 18 hours 17 min ago

The Ohio State Buckeyes have received a devastating update regarding one of their most important players, and the news could have enormous implications for both the Big Ten championship race and the College Football Playoff.

Head coach Ryan Day announced Tuesday that starting quarterback Julian Sayin is out indefinitely with an injury to his throwing arm. Even more concerning for Ohio State fans, the coaching staff is now preparing for the possibility that Sayin won’t return at all this season.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Day confirmed that there is no established recovery timetable for Sayin, who was injured during Ohio State’s 19-15 victory over Indiana on Saturday. The Buckeyes are preparing contingency plans that extend beyond the regular season.

“We’re not gonna put any timeline for his injury, but he is out indefinitely,” Day said, according to Tuesday’s update on the quarterback’s condition.

Day also explained that the program is preparing for Sayin to miss the postseason, should his recovery require an extended absence. That does not mean his season has officially been declared over, but it represents a significant change from the initial expectation that he would miss several weeks.

As we previously reported, Sayin injured his throwing arm late against Indiana and returned to the sideline wearing a sling. The Buckeyes escaped with a victory, but losing their starting quarterback has created a major problem for their championship hopes.

Ohio State Faces Major Uncertainty Ahead of Michigan Rivalry

Sayin has thrown for 2,007 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, making him one of the nation’s most productive quarterbacks. Freshman Luke Fahey replaced him against Indiana and is now positioned to handle first-team responsibilities while the Buckeyes adjust.

The timing is especially concerning with Ohio State’s remaining schedule featuring USC, Oregon, Northwestern, Nebraska and Michigan. According to additional reporting on Day’s announcement, the coaching staff is planning for the possibility of navigating both its remaining regular-season games and postseason competition without Sayin.

For Michigan fans, the development is particularly significant because the Wolverines are scheduled to face Ohio State on November 28. As we previously covered in our look at the Michigan–Ohio State rivalry, the annual showdown remains one of the defining games on both programs’ schedules.

Ohio State has not officially ruled Sayin out for the remainder of the season, but the possibility is now serious enough that Ryan Day is preparing for it. For a Buckeyes team with national championship expectations, Tuesday’s announcement could change everything.

The Aston Martin Formula 1 team may have only just confirmed its padel partnership, but that won't stop it from revealing a range of stationery and travel products alongside Bond Street brand Smythson. Prices range from £14 for a birthday card to a eye-watering £595 for a laptop case.

While the range has only recently gone live this month, the collaboration was originally announced ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix in May. “Rooted in British heritage and unrivalled craftsmanship, this collection brings together Smythson and Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team,” Smythson said.

Our personal favourite part of the range is the Soho Circuit Journal, priced at £295. It sits as a guide to the F1 calendar, with behind-the-scenes content from the team and space for its owner to record every race of the season. According to Smythson, it's “the ultimate trackside companion”.
