The Tennessee Titans won their first game of the 2026 season on Sunday, but the good vibes haven’t lasted long. On Tuesday morning, the team released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott following an “incident” at the Titans’ facility last week.

Elliott, 28, was in his first season with Tennessee after two years in San Francisco and four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He appeared in each of the team’s first five games but missed practice last Friday and was inactive for Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts for “personal reasons.”

What we know

In a statement provided to reporters, the Titans confirmed an unspecified “incident” involving Elliott, which warranted his dismissal from the team.

“On Thursday, October 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott. Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter,” the statement reads.

While the Titans aren’t saying anything more, the situation warrants some deeper investigation. It will be interesting to see what further information comes out regarding what Elliott did.

Elliott recorded 11 tackles in five games this season, making one start. He originally signed a two-year contract with the Titans in the offseason after playing under Tennessee head coach Robert Saleh with the 49ers.

What’s next

Now 1-5 on the season, the Titans return home to host the surprising Cleveland Browns, who are atop the AFC North with a 4-2 record. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

In addition to this Elliott matter, it’s also worth monitoring the status of cornerback Alontae Taylor, who signed a three-year, $58 million contract with the Titans in free agency and went from playing virtually every down through the first five weeks to being inactive on Sunday due to a coach’s decision.

“We’ll discuss it as a staff and make a decision that is best for the team moving forward,” Saleh told reporters about Taylor.

Giants will release Najee Harris

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:22

On Sunday, Giants running back Najee Harris expressed concern about the distribution of touches in the team's ground game. He'll now get none at all.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Giants are releasing Harris.

In five games with one start in New York, Harris had 31 attempts for 99 yards. In Sunday's loss to the Saints, Harris had four carries for two yards on 11 snaps.

Before the game, it was reported that Harris was expected to take on a larger role.

The framing of the report — that the Giants "are releasing" Harris — could be an effort to get someone to try to trade for his one-year, $1.215 million contract.

Either way, he's out with the Giants. And it's hard not to think it was a reaction to his candid criticism of the running game.

“It’s hard to get in a rhythm with one or two plays," Harris said. "The first couple runs will be like, ‘OK, how are they playing it?’ And then the next ones will be, ‘OK, this is how you attack it.’ But if you’re getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you could do. That’s why I’m saying, ‘I don’t know.’ I’ve never been through none of this before.”

A first-round pick in 2021, Harris had four straight 1,000-yard seasons in Pittsburgh. He tore an Achilles tendon after only three games with the Chargers in 2025, after an offseason fireworks mishap.

Erik ten Hag 'embarrassed' by Scott McTominay transfer as ex-Man United manager slams club bosses

Erik ten Hag has accused Manchester United bosses of breaking promises they made to him and says the sale of Scott McTominay left him "embarrassed".

The former United manager has launched a damning attack on Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team in his first major interview since being dismissed by the club in October 2024. Ten Hag was fired months after signing a contract extension with United.

The Dutchman captured the FA Cup in May 2024 to complement his Carabao Cup from the previous season, but remained on precarious ground. United held discussions with Thomas Tuchel and Roberto De Zerbi that summer before reversing course to activate a clause in Ten Hag's contract to prolong his tenure, as per The Mirror.

It proved to be a fleeting decision, with Ratcliffe and the United executives making the call to fire the former Ajax boss following a disappointing defeat by West Ham United. Two years on from his termination, Ten Hag has spoken candidly about what transpired in an interview with The Athletic.

"I wouldn't go on with only one year left," he said. "So I said, 'I need an extra year and we have to do it together'. They promised me loyalty, they promised me backing, they promised communication, that we get aligned. We spoke about the issues. But the promises, they didn't keep."

One of the commitments Ten Hag claims were made was to retain midfielder Scott McTominay, who had netted 10 goals in the 2023/2024 season. However, United ultimately offloaded the academy product to Napoli for £25 million ($33 million), and the Scotland international has gone on to flourish in Italy.

"That's why I got disappointed," Ten Hag said. "In Ibiza, we agreed. I said, 'No selling Scott McTominay'. We would go aligned in the transfer window.

"I make an argument, a reason: we don't have scoring abilities. Scott brings scoring abilities and great mentality. He has United in all his veins. So when they bring up the subject, 'No'. And in the end they sold him. I got, of course, very embarrassed and disappointed."

McTominay has registered 27 goals and 10 assists in 85 appearances for Napoli and guided the club to the Serie A title in his debut campaign. His departure has been widely regarded as a significant error by United, who utilized the funds to bring in Manuel Ugarte for £50 million ($55.3 million) from Paris Saint-Germain.

McTominay's exit wasn't the only transfer that left Ten Hag dissatisfied with those above him at Old Trafford. The former Ajax manager says he pushed hard for the acquisitions of Frenkie de Jong, Declan Rice and Harry Kane.

Speaking about De Jong, he said: "Everyone's thinking the manager is doing the negotiations, that I'm involved in financial issues, but I was never.

"Of course, I did my best; I set up meetings with him, where it was (former chief executive) Richard [Arnold] and (ex-football director) John [Murtough] involved as well, to pursue him to come over. He could have been very important building the team, not only that year but for the future. But we didn't make it."

Florida earns a passing grade from CBS Sports at midseason mark

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:22

It has been a wild ride for the Gator Nation this fall, as Florida football has experienced some meteoric highs along with some subterranean lows — but fortunately, there has been much more good than bad.

The Gators began the season with a four-game winning streak that was marred by a two-game skid, but they bounced back with a signature road victory in Week 7. Beating Ole Miss and Texas were significant feathers in the cap for Jon Sumrall's team, while losses to Missouri and South Carolina, in particular, were major black eyes.

At the midway point of the 2026 college football campaign, CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford submitted his grades for all 16 SEC schools, assigning the Orange and Blue a "B" for their efforts so far.

"This campaign could've deteriorated quickly for the Gators if Jon Sumrall didn't personally challenge his team to show more fight in high-pressure situations. Florida trailed 17-3 over the weekend at Texas before spot starter Tramell Jones, and that offense pulled itself off the turf with the season on the line," Crawford begins.

"As Sumrall said at a program in transition, progress will not always be smooth. We may not be as starry-eyed over Florida as we were when this team was unbeaten and ranked No. 8 after beating Ole Miss, but they can still get to the CFP with a strong finish and better play in the secondary," he continues.

"The Gators certainly look like a more well-rounded football team from the top down under the new staff. Florida's one of three SEC teams entering Week 8 with two ranked victories."

Next up, Florida has a bye week before facing Georgia in the annual rivalry game on Saturday, Oct. 31. That game will be played in Atlanta and broadcast on ABC starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Week 7 fantasy quarterback rankings: Top QB streamers, starts

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:22

While quarterback injuries can be devastating to any team, there's a renewed sense of optimism when those quarterbacks are healthy enough to play again.

The Chicago Bears had that experience in Week 6 as Caleb Williams returned to action and looked like he hadn't missed a beat. After missing three games with a hamstring injury, Williams connected on 30 of his 36 pass attempts for 305 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Falcons.

This week, we could see the return of Lamar Jackson (ankle) to the Ravens and Baker Mayfield (thumb) to the Buccaneers, greatly increasing the fantasy football potential for skill players on both teams.

BREAKING: NY Giants release RB Najee Harris

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:21

Veteran running back Najee Harris started Sunday's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, expressing frustration afterward with how the New York Giants are using their backs in rotation.

Now Harris is a former Giant, but it's not like his production was keeping him on the roster.

The Giants have released Harris, an individual knowledge with the situation told NorthJersey.com and The Record on Monday morning.

Harris has carried the ball 31 times for 99 yards for a 3.2-yard average. He rushed four times for two yards against the Saints. A lot of attention was given to the lack of touches and playing time for Cam Skattebo, who was in the game for six snaps and did not get a carry or a target. Tyrone Tracy scored two touchdowns in the losing effort, while Devin Singletary came back up from the practice

The Giants (3-2-1) remain in first place in the NFC East, but for the second consecutive week, none of the four divisional teams won a game, the first time that has ever happened. The biggest storyline with the Giants at the moment is at quarterback, where Harbaugh said he is "honing in" on deciding whether J.J. McCarthy would supplant Jameis Winston as the starter heading into Sunday's game in Houston against the Texans (2-4).

Harbaugh was also asked about Harris' venting during a video call Monday. He also expanded on his answer, fueling speculation that the Giants would consider adding a lead running back from the trade market.

"Do understand it. Respect it. Also understand that that's earned," Harbaugh said. "I would love for us to be in that kind of a circumstance. A Derrick Henry circumstance or a Saquon Barkley circumstance or whatever it might be. That would be great, and we haven't. Our run game hasn't earned that yet, and none of those guys have. My advice would be to any player, and it's all the guys, we had the same conversation. I've had the same conversation with all the running backs, the receivers, it's no different than any position, but do the most you can with the opportunities you get. Make the most of those opportunities and you're sure to get more opportunities. Do something. So, I get it that you want to get out there and you want to get a rhythm, but that rhythm is earned too and it just hasn't happened yet. Definitely want it to happen."

Colorado football rumors: Bruce Feldman hits Deion Sanders with ‘very awkward’ warning as hot seat gets ‘sticky’

Colorado football rumors: Bruce Feldman hits Deion Sanders with ‘very awkward’ warning as hot seat gets ‘sticky’ appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Colorado football team is struggling during the 2026 season. Colorado has dropped four games in a row, and the pressure is building on embattled head coach Deion Sanders. Sanders is getting issued a warning by college football insider Bruce Feldman.

“They’ll likely be an underdog in every game the rest of the way. Maybe they’ll be a favorite in the season finale when UCF visits. It’s getting harder to see a path for things feeling like they did in 2024. New AD Fernando Lovo isn’t the guy who hired Deion or gave him the five-year, $54 million deal in 2025. Things could get very awkward in Boulder,” Feldman wrote for The Athletic.

Sanders is in his fourth season in Colorado. He has just one conference win since the start of the 2025 campaign. Sanders has also posted two losing seasons in his first three years.

The Colorado head coach has a pretty large buyout. It is about $26 million at the present time, On3 has reported. That buyout may not be enough to save Sanders’ job, if Colorado keeps losing.

Sanders has been getting plenty of advice from analysts as the season rolls along. Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe has directed Sanders to change his approach to recruiting. Colorado has had plenty of blue chip recruits since Sanders came to Boulder, but the team hasn’t been able to win games.

“After getting off to a nice start with an upset win at Georgia Tech, they were embarrassed at Northwestern and looked lost the next few games before putting a scare into then-No. 11 Utah last week, ultimately losing 27-24,” Feldman wrote.

ICC T20I Rankings: Shree Charani, Deepti Sharma dominate as Nandani Sharma, Kranti Gaud make gains

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:21
NEW DELHI: India’s dominance in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings continues, with Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma retaining the top two positions, while fast bowlers Nandani Sharma and Kranti Gaud made significant gains following the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.

India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series at home, with their bowlers playing a key role in the campaign. The latest rankings reflect the depth of India’s bowling resources, with Nandani and Kranti rewarded for their performances in the first two matches in Raipur.

Nandani emerged as one of the biggest movers, climbing 26 places to 45th in the T20I bowling rankings. The right-arm seamer has claimed three wickets across the first two matches, making her one of the joint-leading wicket-takers in the series.

Teammate Kranti also made progress, moving up nine places to 43rd. Their rise adds to the achievements of Charani and Deepti, who remain first and second, respectively, after delivering economical performances against Zimbabwe.

Shree Charani, Deepti Sharma maintain their grip
Charani continues to lead the T20I bowling rankings, with experienced all-rounder Deepti occupying second place. Their continued presence at the summit underlines India’s strength in the shortest format, where spin has remained a key component of the bowling attack.

The latest update also highlights the growing contribution of India’s pace options. Nandani’s 26-place jump and Kranti’s rise of nine positions show how the performances of the supporting bowlers are strengthening the team’s resources ahead of future international assignments.

New Zealand bowlers and batters make gains
There were also changes in the T20I rankings following the opening match of the trans-Tasman series between Australia and New Zealand in Sydney.

Australia seamer Annabel Sutherland climbed one place to eighth among T20I bowlers, while New Zealand’s Jess Kerr rose five spots to 17th. Teammates Bree Illing and Nensi Patel also improved, moving up six places to 23rd and five places to 35th, respectively.

New Zealand batters Maddy Green and Georgia Plimmer made progress in the T20I batting rankings. Green climbed three places to 34th, while Plimmer made a significant 13-place jump to 48th.

Australia’s Beth Mooney, meanwhile, retained her position as the world’s top-ranked T20I batter.

Megan Schutt, Ellyse Perry rise in ODI rankings
The latest update also brought gains for Australian players in the ODI rankings following their 50-over series against Bangladesh in the ICC Women’s Championship.

Veteran fast bowler Megan Schutt moved up one place to fourth in the ODI bowling rankings. Ellyse Perry climbed one spot to ninth among ODI batters and made an even bigger jump in the all-rounders’ list, rising 14 places to 25th.

Sutherland also benefited from her unbeaten half-century in the final ODI, moving up four places to 13th in the batting rankings. Bangladesh batter Sharmin Akhter Supta climbed five places to 25th.

Familiarity: Peoria Rivermen sign a player who has been a longtime opponent on the ice

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:20

PEORIA — The Peoria Rivermen picked up a physical, grinding forward on Tuesday morning to upgrade their roster ahead of the SPHL home opener.

Davis Kirkendall was released by the Quad City Storm, and the Rivermen grabbed him as a free agent.

The 6-foot, 210-pound winger is a hard-nosed, player, an agitator who provides presence around the net and can fit multiple roles.

"We needed to add some grit to our lineup," Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel said. "Davis can provide us with some of that. We're looking forward to having him here."

Peorian's Cale List (5) tangles with Vermilion County's Davis Kirkendall in front of goaltender Ben Churchfield in the second period Friday, Jan. 6, 2023 at Carver Arena. The Rivermen fell to the Bobcats 4-2.

Kirkendall, 29, is from Hamel, Minn. and is in his sixth pro season.

He played at Saint John's University and Lawrence University, both NCAA Div.-III programs, before turning pro with an ill-fated Vermilion County team in the SPHL in 2021-22.

He spent two seasons there, moved on to play two seasons for Knoxville and parts of four seasons with Peoria rival Quad City.

He has 29 goals and 43 assists in 161 career SPHL games, along with 178 penalty minutes.

The Rivermen made roster room on Tuesday by releasing winger Brandon Della Paolera.

Peoria stages its 2026-27 home opener Saturday at Carver Arena with a 7:15 p.m. start against expansion Pee Dee.

Peoria goaltender Jack Berry deflects a shot from Quad City's Davis Kirkendall in the second period Friday, March 24, 2023 at Carver Arena. The Rivermen fell to the Storm 1-0.

All upper bowl tickets for that annual Bruce Saurs Memorial Night opener are $10. They can be purchased by calling the team at (309) 676-1040, or through the Civic Center box office from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and 90 minutes before game time on Saturday.

Panthers playmaker earns Week 6 game ball from CBS Sports

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:20

The Carolina Panthers' decision to hand over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Brad Idzik has turned out to be a phenomenal one. While the sample size is still relatively small, he's been a dramatic step up over head coach Dave Canales in this department—with the unit averaging the second-most yards and fourth-most points in the NFL going into Week 7.

Idzik's scheme has helped starting quarterback Bryce Young make the long-awaited breakthrough to a high level of play. It's also got starting running back Chuba Hubbard playing the best ball of his NFL career.

In their latest win, a 25-14 triumph over the Philadelphia Eagles, Hubbard ran for just 24 yards in the first half. But, in what's become a bit of a trend here in 2026, he helped carry the offense in the second half and finished with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown.

For his efforts, Hubbard earned a game ball from Tyler Sullivan at CBS Sports. Sullivan writes:

Hubbard was leaned on quite a bit in Week 6, logging a season-high 28 carries in the win over the Eagles in Philly. He turned those carries into 120 yards on the ground and a touchdown. This is the first time in Hubbard's career that he's logged back-to-back games with at least 120 yards. He's also just one of five Panthers backs to have back-to-back games with at least 120 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown, and the first since Jonathan Stewart in 2009.

Hubbard has now run for 426 yards on 89 attempts (4.8 yards per attempt) and four touchdowns on the season. As a receiver, he's added another 11 catches, 85 yards and two scores.

Plus, his average of 85.2 rushing yards per game is a new career high, as is his 55.1-percent success rate.

When was the last time Alabama lost three consecutive games?

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:20

A rarity happened for Alabama this past Saturday as the Tide lost their second consecutive game, doing so on the road at Tennessee.

A losing streak is quite the rare occurrence for Alabama football. In fact, Alabama has lost two games in a row just once in the last decade, and those games were not even in the same season (the bowl game loss to Michigan in 2024, and then the season-opening loss to Florida State in 2025). The 2013 season was the last time Alabama lost two straight games in the same year when they fell to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl following the "kick-six" loss to Auburn.

Now, when was the last time Alabama has lost three games in a row (which they are now trying to avoid)? You have to go all the way back to Nick Saban's first season at Alabama in 2007 for that answer. The end of the regular season in 2007 actually resulted in a four-game losing streak for Alabama, a year in which they went 6-6 in the regular season and finished 7-6 after a bowl game win. All four of those losses were by one score, with three of them coming by exactly seven points.

The first loss of that stretch was a heart-breaking 41-34 loss to eventual national champion LSU, a meeting with heightened stakes after Saban had previously left LSU. This was a game in which Alabama led 27-17 in the second half before LSU ended the game on a 24-7 run. The crucial play in the game was a fourth quarter Alabama fumble that LSU recovered at the Tide four-yard line that led the late game-winning LSU touchdown.

The second loss was a 17-12 defeat to Mississippi State in which Alabama's offense had just 274 yards of offense. Then came the infamous 21-14 loss to UL Monroe. Alabama outgained ULM, 409-282, but committed four turnovers in the upset loss.

The fourth loss was a 17-10 Iron Bowl loss to Auburn.

Alabama will look to avoid their first three-game losing streak in nearly two decades this weekend as they host Texas A&M. A&M comes in 4-3 overall (1-3 SEC).

The Milwaukee Brewers have only made one other World Series appearance in franchise history before this year. Their first World Series appearance came in 1982 when they played in the American League. They lost in a close seven-game series to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Despite the outcome of the 2026 World Series, the MLB will be guaranteed a first-time champion.

Aaron Pico 'very prepared' for unexpected UFC 333 fight vs. Losene Keita

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:20

ABU DHABI – If all went according to plan, Aaron Pico would be gearing up for a very different kind of UFC 333 matchup.

He could be fighting former bantamweight champion and No. 4-ranked featherweight Aljamain Sterling – but Sterling turned him down. He should be fighting No. 6 contender Arnold Allen – but Allen withdrew for health reasons about a month ago. That left Pico (14-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to accept a fight with unranked Losene Keita, whom he meets on Saturday's UFC 333 main card (Paramount+) at Etihad Arena.

Even though his UFC 333 fight booking turned out to be not as high profile as it could've been, seems to be OK with how things turned out.

"At the end of the day, this is what I do for a living," Pico told MMA Junkie on Tuesday. "I'm a warrior, and I've got to fight anybody that they put in front of me."

Pico, a longtime Bellator standout, got off to a disastrous UFC start last year when he suffered a first-round knockout against Lerone Murphy in his debut at UFC 319. After eight months off, though, Pico bounced back this past April with a unanimous decision win over Patricio Freire at UFC 327.

While Keita (17-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) isn't exactly who he hoped to be facing, Pico said he takes some solace in knowing the UFC had big plans for him after he rebounded with a solid performance.

"I do, but you know what? Saturday is going to be a good night for me," Pico said. "I feel very confident, not overly. If I just do my job and be smart, I think it's going to be a good night for us. But in MMA, anything can happen. But I'm very prepared for this, confident, one step closer to winning a championship with this victory."

Watch UFC 333 with Paramount+

Ever since Bellator signed him as a teenage blue-chip prospect from the amateur wrestling ranks, the expectations have been heavy on Pico. He never achieved becoming a Bellator champ after some ups and downs. That makes it that much more important to him that he gets it done in the UFC.

Although his outlook has changed over the years.

"I think when I was younger, I felt a lot of pressure," Pico said. "But as I've gotten older and a little bit wiser – I just turned 30 in September – I've learned that, in life, it's best to just take each day as it comes. I can't really look too far ahead, can't look back in the past. That's in the rearview mirror. So, the title will come when the title comes. I say it all the time: The most important fight is the one that's next, so this is the most important fight. God willing, if the (title) fight comes, I'll be ready for it, but I just live my life like that. When it comes, it comes.

"I don't try to stress out because, at the end of the day, if you do what's right and you have a good heart, life will be good for you one way or the other."

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama recently opened up about his lofty expectations and mindset heading into the 2026-27 NBA season, emphasizing that his standard has shifted toward personal growth rather than merely chasing the title of being the best player on the planet following their tough NBA Finals loss to the New York Knicks.

While the young superstar focuses on improving upon last year’s performance, physical speculation surrounding his unprecedented frame has once again captured the basketball world’s attention. Shifting absolute focus to the latest buzz, comments shared on X by NBA Base revealed that NBA Commissioner Adam Silverweighed in on the phenom heading into the new campaign, stating: “He keeps getting better. Most common players on eliminated teams from Week 6 in Yahoo Fantasy Death leagues — plus FAB waiver wire advice

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:19

Every week I'll examine the most common NFL players on the teams eliminated in Yahoo Death Leagues, trying to figure out where the puck is headed. I will also offer some FAB advice ($1,000 cap is the Yahoo default), but please remember this area is highly context-sensitive and manager-specific.

Waiver strategy in Death Leagues

If you're new to this format, it's critical to understand that waiver strategy is significantly different in the world of Death Leagues.

You can often win a traditional fantasy league with modest help from the waiver wire, maybe a timely pickup or two. Sure, it's great if you crush the market and land the right guys — the best managers will always aim to be smart on the wire — but if your drafted team stays healthy and runs pure, some years that might be enough.

Death Leagues are back and better than ever. (Photo by Grant Thomas/Yahoo Sports)Death Leagues are back and better than ever. (Photo by Grant Thomas/Yahoo Sports)Immediate needs vs. playing the long game

In Death Leagues, the eventual winning manager will have assembled a MONSTER team at the end of the year, a juggernaut, a Pro Bowl-type of roster. And the way you build that beast is usually by having resources all season — not by using the majority of your FAB on a tantalizing early star. It's pivotal that you understand that the waiver wire should get stronger and stronger every week in Death leagues, because the eliminated manager is coming from a smaller and smaller league size every week.

Unless you have a draft touched by the fantasy angels, you are unlikely to win a Death League without a successful and careful waiver-wire strategy.

My Death League strategy is centered on the concept that I like my squad early in the year and I am confident I can beat at least one team per week while the field of opponents is large. Therefore, while I will dip my toes into the FAB market early, my primary goal is to keep major reserves in play for later in the year, when bye weeks hit and injuries are more prevalent — and the pool of opponents is smaller (so advancing is harder, in theory). Again, I urge you to remember: the waiver wire in Death Leagues gets stronger as the year gets deeper, a key reason to be judicious with your resources.

Not everyone will share my strategy, of course. If you want to chase major improvements and use the bulk of your FAB to load up quickly, then shoot your shot. Play the strategy you're comfortable with. Just understand that my recommendations are predicated on being careful early, and if you prefer something more aggressive, you'll have to jump the numbers up. You know your room better than an outsider does.

Keep in mind the bye weeks are here — the Commanders, Chargers, Bills and Jaguars don't play in Week 7. When in doubt, we will prefer players with later bye weeks — if you survive deep in this format, your roster will be loaded in the money weeks (making byes less painful). October absences can be more difficult to negotiate.

Understanding FAB recommendations

I will offer weekly FAB recommendations in three buckets:

Proactive: This means you highly covet this player, perhaps might even need this player. I realize these offers might not win if someone in your league is lighting money on fire, but as described above, that's often a short-sighted mistake in this format.

Reactive: This means you desire the player but the offer has to make sense for your short- or long-term strategy.

Keep Them Honest: This is an offer that is not designed to win, but might surprisingly land a player if your opponents are distracted by other talent available or unexpectedly passive that week. I often compare notes with other experienced Death League players and we're surprised at how often the Keep Them Honest offers actually win (this is also a portable strategy for regular season-long leagues; you never know when strange market behavior will come about).

One last note: Understand that the FAB recommendations are with the assumption that you won't be making offers for every available player.

Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Basketball league for the 2026-27 NBA season

1. RB Derrick Henry, Ravens (18%)

Henry had his first game without a touchdown this season and managed just 3.4 YPC against a sturdy Cleveland defensive front. The veteran retains a strong workload and the Ravens will eventually get Lamar Jackson back, but maybe Henry is finally showing signs of gentle decline. Still, bellcows are rare, so pay up.

FAB Recommendation:

$260 proactive

$160 reactive

$85 them honest

2. RB Cam Skattebo, Giants (17%)

Skattebo saw just six snaps and didn't touch the ball in the loss to New Orleans. Worse yet, the Giants used three other backs, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. actually scored two touchdowns. Najee Harris was cut Tuesday, so at least the committee is trimmed to three. But Skattebo is in the doghouse until further notice.

FAB Recommendation:

$55 proactive

$20 reactive

$5 them honest

3. RB MarShawn Lloyd, Packers (16%)

The Green Bay rushing game is dead last by any reasonable measure, in part because of a terrible offensive line. But Lloyd and the backs share much of the blame. Josh Jacobs is now off the exempt list and can practice Wednesday, so Lloyd is a fantasy drop in almost all formats.

FAB Recommendation:

No Bid

4. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, Lions (15%)

Ah, those pesky bye weeks. The Sun God didn't score a touchdown in his last two games, but he's seen 11 or more targets in all but one start and Detroit has that lovely carnival setup (fun offense, bad defense). Get out the checkbook.

FAB Recommendation:

$275 proactive

$175 reactive

$90 them honest

5. RB Rhamondre Stevenson, Patriots (15%)

Early in the week, the spot looked perfect. But TreVeyon Henderson's ankle injury wasn't as bad as thought, and Corey Kiner stepped up late on Sunday. Stevenson remains a solid player, but he has the lowest YPC of this trio. Things are muddy moving forward.

FAB Recommendation:

$85 proactive

$35 reactive

$8-10 them honest

6. TE Tyler Warren, Colts (14%)

He was a game-time decision for Week 6 but ultimately scratched due to a groin injury. The Vikings are a nasty Week 7 draw, and QB Daniel Jones has not played well all year. But a healthy Warren can still move the needle.

FAB Recommendation:

$100 proactive

$55 reactive

$5-10 them honest

7. TE Sam LaPorta, Lions (13%)

Can't knock a guy for a bye week — he doesn't set the schedule. LaPorta is a good player off to a decent start, but he's the third option at best on this offense, and occasionally the fourth. Just be reasonable about what his true ceiling is.

FAB Recommendation:

$85 proactive

$40 reactive

$3-6 them honest

8. TE Harold Fannin Jr., Browns (13%)

It wasn't a fun week for tight ends, and we haven't even mentioned Juwan Johnson (zero catches). Fannin is a strong talent who has two obvious problems — Cleveland's QB room is especially weak, but the WR room is young and talented. Variance is to be expected.

FAB Recommendation:

$60 proactive

$25 reactive

$2-4 them honest

9. WR Denzel Boston, Browns (13%)

It's reasonable to blame most of it on Deshaun Watson, but it's not like Watson is going anywhere. Boston is still a rookie to watch, but his target count toggles between four and seven every week — they're not forcing the ball to him. Once again, it's a story of Cleveland having a lot of pass-catching talent, but no real answer at quarterback.

FAB Recommendation:

$40 proactive

$15 reactive

$1-3 them honest

10. WR Garrett Wilson, Jets (13%)

When a 4-44-0 log is your bad game, you must be a pretty decent player. Wilson's upside will forever be capped so long as the Jets don't have a plus quarterback, and Omar Cooper Jr. stole some looks last week. But Wilson is a set-and-forget WR2 in standard leagues, and still a respectable play in Death Leagues, even as the roster strength keeps rising weekly.

FAB Recommendation:

$150 proactive

$75 reactive

$30 them honest

What’s going on with Jalen Hurts’ blood clots? Medical experts explain what the Eagles' QB is battling — and how long his recovery will take

Yahoo Sports - Tue, 10/20/2026 - 18:19

The Philadelphia Eagles have placed starting quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve after a blood clot moved deeper into Hurts’ calf and then spread to his lungs, per a team statement.

Hurts’ diagnosis has shifted rapidly — from doctors discovering a superficial blood clot in his calf on Saturday, Oct. 10 to Hurts playing the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Oct. 11 to doctors discovering movement in the clot on Oct. 14.

By Oct. 15, last Thursday,Hurts was ruled out for the weekend. By Saturday, he was placed on the minimum-four-week injured reserve. And on Monday, the Eagles announced that Hurts’ blood clot had not just moved to the deep veins of his calf but also reached his lungs — a dramatic swing from the initial injury that didn’t restrict Hurts’ clearance to play or travel.

What exactly is the Eagles quarterback experiencing and what does it mean for his short- and long-term health? Yahoo Sports spoke to two medical experts to better understand.

Dr. Ben Levine is a professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern and director of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine, a collaboration between UT Southwestern and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Dr. Thomas Maldonado is a professor of vascular surgery at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Neither physician has worked with Hurts directly. Each spoke by phone generally about their experience studying and treating patients with blood clots, including Levine’s experience studyingclinical considerations for competitive athletes diagnosed with blood clots.

Here’s some of what we learned from their guidance:

What is the difference between Hurts’ initial diagnosis and his current one?

Doctors in London initially diagnosed Hurts with a superficial blood clot, the Eagles said in a Thursday statement. That constitutes a blood clot closer to the skin and above the fascia, a layer of tissue. Back in Philadelphia, Hurts’ diagnosis was updated to a deep vein clot (clinically a deep vein “thrombosis”) which spread to both of Hurts’ lungs (“bilateral pulmonary emboli,” as the Eagles and Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn said in a statement). How does one become the other?

“In this particular case, there was a component in the deep system, whether that was there at the get-go or whether that resulted because the clot in the superficial vein spilled into the deep vein,” Maldonado said. “These veins connect usually up in the groin or sometimes behind the knee, the superficial and the deep connect and come together. And sometimes if there's a clot very close to that connection or junction, then that can spill into the deep system and that's very likely what happened here.”

Clots that travel to the lungs can block or clog an artery, and in severe cases be fatal, Maldonado said. Larger clots are at greater risk of clogging arteries and triggering fatalities. The Eagles’ statement that Hurts is “clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations” suggests those more severe outcomes, at this point, have been avoided.

pic.twitter.com/aInIuUYiQJ

— Nicole Lynn (@AgentNicoleLynn) October 19, 2026Hurts had a blood clot and played in London. Now he can’t play. Why?

This might feel like an obvious question, but the answer is less obvious. The blood clot itself is not what’s keeping Hurts from playing. Rather, the blood-thinning medication (“anticoagulation,” clinically) is keeping him from playing football. Superficial blood clots are not typically treated with blood thinners, Levine and Maldonado said. Once the clot was found to have moved deeper — and, now, to the lungs — blood thinners become the treatment plan and the hindrance to football. The risk of bleeding from a contact injury and then not clotting while on the blood-thinning medication is too high.

“You give an anticoagulant to protect the veins from getting more blood clots and to prevent even more blood clots from breaking off and flowing into the lungs…” Levine said. “Sports where collision is part and parcel of the game … you can imagine that if you're giving a blood thinner to prevent blood clotting, that if you got hit hard in the head, for example, you might get a hemorrhage or blood bleeding into your brain or into another part of your body, which wouldn't be so good. So those are conditions where you would be pretty cautious and concerned about someone who's on a blood thinner playing that sport.”

How long will Jalen Hurts be out?

Again, neither of these physicians have treated Hurts. But each agreed that the typical recovery timeline on blood-thinners after a clot moves into deep veins and lungs is three to six months. An ultrasound at three months could determine whether the clots have “healed” or dissipated. Hurts’ age (28) plays to his favor as does his seeming ability to determine what triggered these clots: Hurts was kicked in the calf with a cleat on Oct. 4, a local trauma that could produce a clot. He also flew from Philadelphia to London and back for the game, a roughly seven-plus hour flight each way. Long flights, and particularly the immobility and/or dehydration that can come with flights, can provoke clots.

“If you know and can clearly see when it happened and why, typically the recommendations are the wiggle room is three to six months,” Levine said. “I think even the most liberal doctors who manage these conditions would want to make sure that someone was fully anti-coagulated for at least three months. … If it's a clear, provoked event, and you can document that the vein is opened and that they're in the leg, for example, if that's where it occurred, that there's good blood flow, that there's no further evidence of unresolved blood clots in the lung, that the right ventricle (the lower right chamber of the heart) is functioning normally, then at three months you can start to have that discussion.”

The Eagles and Lynn said in their statement that Hurts’ “prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” including the return to contact football once off blood thinners.

It’s impossible for doctors who haven’t examined Hurts to determine which risk factor triggered Hurts. But “long plane rides are notorious for increasing the risk of having a blood clot in the leg because you're stuck,” Levine said, “and for big people like American football players, even a first-class seat can be pretty tight. So you're stuck and you can't move and you're very still and you're not moving your muscles. When you contract your muscles, that pushes the blood back to the heart and keeps the blood moving. But if your legs are pointed down and you're stuck there in a tight spot, it increases the risk of what we call stasis. That means the blood's not moving through the veins.”

Immobility, in particular, is the concern on flights given how calf contractions help move blood back to the heart and reduce the chance of clotting.

“That's why people who have long plane travel, sometimes we encourage them to get up, stretch their legs, walk around, stay hydrated, avoid things like alcohol or caffeine that can dehydrate you on a plane,” Maldonado said. “Compression stocking sometimes people wear on a plane to help give external support and prevent blood from pooling in the calves. Flexing your heels, ‘pumping the gas,’ so to speak — getting that calf muscle working.”

The NFLPA sent a travel kit to all players on teams playing international games, a union spokesperson told Yahoo Sports. The kit included Firefly recovery devices designed to improve blood circulation and EXOS travel exercises.

Is it unusual for a superficial blood clot to become a deep blood clot?

Each doctor confirmed that most superficial blood clots, such as the clot that forms in a vein after receiving an IV or giving blood, do not enter the deep vein nor travel beyond.

Levine described the transition of a clot from superficial to deep as “very rare,” while Maldonado noted that by definition, Hurts had a deep clot at some point.

“Whether it was a superficial clot that then as a result of this sort of setting propagated into the deep system or whether it was really both a superficial and deep clot is hard to say, but it's that combination of the perfect storm of being on a long plane trip, [possibly] dehydrated, et cetera, immobile that” could cause this, Maldonado said. “In the superficial clot that he developed, it's very unusual for it to result in this scenario where it's gone to the lungs. But now that it's gone to the lungs, now they're going to treat this as a much more unstable situation where they want to make sure he doesn't have other blood clots going to the lungs.”

In the interim, Hurts can and will remain around the team conditioning in non-contact ways, the Eagles and Lynn said in the statement.

“We anticipate that he will have no long-term effects,” the statement said. “We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery.”
