Former UCLA linebacker scores his first NFL touchdown on Sunday
In a surprising twist, UCLA Bruin football alum Oluwafemi Oladejo found himself in the end zone for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in the Titans’ 26-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Oladejo gave the Titans the lead with the fourth quarter score.
It was Tennessee’s first win of the season and they needed the special teams touchdown to get it done. Oladejo’s first career touchdown came off of a blocked punt by the Titans, that Oladejo scooped up and ran in for an easy touchdown.

Oladejo, the second-year linebacker. recovered the ball at the Colts’ 13-yard line, meaning Oladejo didn’t have to travel far to get into the end zone. No Colts player came close to Oladejo, who held onto the ball safely with two arms as he scored the touchdown.
It’s Oladejo’s second season with the Titans after being taken by Tennessee in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft. UCLA had two linebackers selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, with Defensive Rookie of the Year Carson Schwesinger getting taken by the Cleveland Browns.
Oladejo has now appeared in 12 games as a Titan, having made 20 tackles and registering three QB hits at the NFL level.
Oladejo spent his junior and senior seasons with UCLA after spending his first two college seasons with Cal. As a Bruin, Oladejo made five sacks with an interception in 25 games as a Bruin.

DeMeco Ryans addresses lack of defensive pressure vs Jaguars in win
The Houston Texans had a lot of good things in their 34-31 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, their defensive line wasn't one of them, as they didn't get a sack all game. It was the first time since Week 13 of 2024, also against the Jaguars, that the Texans did not record a sack.
Especially with the talent Houston has on defense with All-Pro Will Anderson Jr, five-time Pro-Bowler Danielle Hunter and three-time Pro-Bowler Jadeveon Clowney, they should at least be able to get one sack in a game.
However, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans gave all the credit to Jacksonville’s offensive game plan to eliminate their defensive line while also acknowledging the field conditions.
“From the pressure standpoint, the ball was out pretty quickly. I thought Trevor [Lawrence] did a good job of getting the ball out quickly. They had a really good game plan for our guys,” Ryans said. “The field, the surface was slippery for both sides. I don't think their defenders got any sacks either. It was hard to get that footing and get downhill in the rushes. I give credit to Jacksonville, first and foremost, for the game plan and how they executed.”
Houston should be able to get some sacks in their next game against the New York Giants. New York has a question at quarterback going into this game, but both Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy were sacked during the Giants’ loss to the New Orleans Saints. Between the two quarterbacks, Winston was sacked four times while McCarthy was only sacked once.
Still, this is an offensive line the Texans should be able to get after and cause some disruption against.

Cheapest Ticket to Knicks Opener at MSG Climbs to More Than $2,000
The Knicks are about to raise their first championship banner in 53 years, and getting in the building will cost a small fortune.
The defending champions open the regular season against the new-look 76ers at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night. As of Monday afternoon, tickets on secondary marketplaces were going for as low as $1,100, which “slightly surprised” TicketData founder Keith Pagello, who points out that the cheapest tickets for Game 3 of the NBA Finals just ahead of tipoff were about $6,700.
By Monday evening, prices for Tuesday night’s game featuring reigning Finals MVP Jalen Brunson and the NBA’s all-time scoring leader LeBron James had climbed, with the cheapest individual resale ticket on Ticketmaster listed for more than $1,700. On Tuesday morning, the cheapest individual ticket on Ticketmaster was over $2,200; on StubHub, it was more than $2,100, and on SeatGeek it was exceeding $2,200.
“Definitely surging,” Pagello tells Front Office Sports, noting that all the ingredients for an “extraordinarily expensive regular season game” exist, including the debut of James and former Celtics star Jaylen Brown as 76ers.
For the vast majority of Knicks fans who didn’t get to see their team win the championship in San Antonio, “this is arguably the next closest thing to being part of that championship moment, watching the banner being raised to the rafters at MSG, where it will hang forever,” Pagello says.
“This will go down as one of the most expensive regular-season games in NBA history, if not the most expensive,” he says.
The closest historical comparisons he can think of include the first Lakers game following the death of Kobe Bryant in 2020, Bryant’s final game before retirement in 2016—in which he scored 60 points—and games in 2023 when James was approaching the all-time scoring record.
One interesting trend emerged over the last week: before the Monday evening surge, the get-in price had dropped by as much as 15%, while prices for center-court sections in the lower bowl simultaneously jumped by more than 25%.
“Generally speaking, the gap between premium seats and the cheapest tickets narrows as an event approaches, with the best seats commanding less of a premium,” Pagello says. “But it’s not entirely surprising to see this game buck that trend, given the number of deep-pocketed New Yorkers willing to pay a premium to be close to the court for such a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Sports Illustrated Tickets CEO David Lane agrees that Tuesday night will likely end up among the “most expensive home openers” in NBA history. According to Lane, the average home opener sees tickets selling for between $400 and $500 apiece.
"For Knicks fans, it’s been a generation since they’ve been able to see a moment like this, so you can understand why prices are elevated."
David Lane, CEO of Sports Illustrated Tickets, speaks with FOS's @BakerMachado on Knicks vs. 76ers prices. pic.twitter.com/XmEa6gN4f3
“For Knicks fans, it’s been a generation since they’ve been able to see a moment like this,” he told FOS’s Baker Machado on FOS Tonight. “So you can understand why prices are elevated.”
Still, Lane said hope is not lost for Knicks fans who live close enough to MSG to buy tickets closer to tipoff. As of Monday morning, there were resale tickets listed on Ticketmaster for as high as $28,000, on StubHub for higher than $25,000, and on SeatGeek for over $24,000.
“You see that type of tactic all the time,” Lane said. “Those tickets will move down into a sellable range.”
Pagello cautions that fans shouldn’t bank on scoring last-minute tickets at reasonable prices, including because “inventory is exceptionally thin.” He also notes that the ring ceremony, which begins at 6:30 p.m., means the crowd will want to be in their seats “well before the game starts.”
The get-in price of more than $2,000 is still lower than what tickets for the game originally went on sale for when the Knicks first put tickets on the market last month. At first, individual Knicks tickets for the season opener went on sale for an average of $2,500, but Madison Square Garden Sports quickly paused ticket sales and issued a statement saying there was a “mistake in our pricing.”

Why Mike McCarthy must fix the Steelers broken third-down plan
The Pittsburgh Steelers have created third-and-6 or shorter at the third-highest rate in the NFL this season. Yet, despite putting themselves in manageable situations, their conversion rate remains among the league’s worst. The issue isn't a lack of opportunity; it is a glaring operational disconnect in play-calling.
During Pittsburgh’s recent outing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the offense converted just five of 15 third downs. The root cause was evident in the formation data; Pittsburgh dropped back to pass on all 15 third downs, lining up in shotgun on 14 of them.
According to beat reporter Alan Saunders on the “Locked on Steelers” podcast, for an offense built around physicality, abandoning under-center formations and the ground game in short-yardage scenarios is artificially crippling drive sustainability. Over the course of the season, Pittsburgh has opted to run the ball just eight times on 54 third-and-short or medium opportunities. The catch? They converted only six of those eight attempts.
"They were in shotgun on 14 of their 15 third downs against the Buccaneers," noted Saunders. "I think they probably would do better throwing the ball if teams were more afraid of the run whether you run it or not. Their numbers with play action are very good. I feel like they get into this like third down equals like two-minute drill play calling that I don't think serves them very well."
By operating almost exclusively out of shotgun, head coach Mike McCarthy allows opposing pass rushers to pin their ears back and play man coverage without fearing a ground threat. Aligning under center, even to set up play-action passes to Pat Freiermuth or DK Metcalf, forces linebackers to hesitate and respects the threat of Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle.
If McCarthy wants to fix Pittsburgh's stagnant third-down efficiency, the solution is right in front of him - line up under center, lean on physical running, and make defenses defend the entire field.

Manchester United consider move for France international Adrien Truffert
Manchester United consider move for France international Adrien TruffertManchester United are considering a move for AFC Bournemouth defender and France international Adrien Truffert (24), as per a report from The I Paper.
Truffert’s form for Bournemouth recently earned him a recall to the France national team. He made his debut for Les Bleus back in 2022 but had to wait until last month to add to his one cap at international level. His performances have also caught the eye of Manchester United. The Red Devils have had a poor start to the season.
The club’s transfer window has been under the microscope and Jason Wilcox has notably been criticised by Lisandro Martinez. One of the oversights, it is now admitted internally, is the failure to recruit at left-back. That is an error that Manchester United may look to correct in January.
The I Paper reports that, whilst Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall is a priority target in this position, Truffert is also considered an option. The Frenchman is a long-term target for Manchester United, although, should they make their move, they may face competition for his signature. The former Stade Rennais full-back’s contract with Bournemouth runs until 2030.

Ten Hag sheds light on Manchester United’s failed attempt to sign Barcelona superstar: ‘I did everything I could’
Ten Hag sheds light on Manchester United’s failed attempt to sign Barcelona superstar: ‘I did everything I could’Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong is coming back from a long-term injury, having returned to the squad against Real Betis.
The Dutchman is yet to play his first minutes of the campaign and could be in line for a cameo against PSG at the Parc des Princes.
De Jong’s future at Barça has not always been clear, with the club most famously trying to sell him to Manchester United in the summer of 2022.
Now, former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag has revealed the extent of the club’s efforts to sign the Dutchman from the Catalan club.
In an interview with The Athletic, the former Ajax manager explained that he personally organised meetings with De Jong and senior Manchester United officials.
Ten Hag reveals his efforts to sign De JongDe Jong emerged as Manchester United’s priority midfield target shortly after Ten Hag arrived at the club, with the duo having worked together previously at Ajax.
The Dutchman believed that the Barça captain could become the foundation of his midfield, offering technical quality and control.

“He could have been very important in building the team, not just that year, but also for the future. But we couldn’t make it happen,” Ten Hag admitted.
The former United manager also explained that he had taken an active role in the negotiations.
“I did everything I could. I organised meetings with him in which Richard and John also participated to convince him to come,” he said, referring to former United executives Richard Arnold and John Murtough.
Despite those efforts, which even saw Manchester United reach an agreement with Barça on a transfer fee, De Jong chose to remain at the Catalan club.
De Jong’s decision underlines his commitment to BarcelonaDe Jong has always been clear about his desire to remain and succeed at Barcelona, and he has been a key part of the team for a decade now.
While Man Utd wanted to make him the cornerstone of their project, the midfielder ultimately chose continuity.

Barcelona’s finances at that time prompted them to consider selling the Dutch maestro, who was one of the more sellable assets in the squad.
His ability to retain the ball under pressure, break the first line of the press and drive forward with the ball at his feet makes him invaluable to the team.
Ten Hag’s words show how much he wanted De Jong in the project he was building at Manchester.
Frenkie has instead chosen to pursue success at Barcelona, and it remains to be seen how he fares against PSG if given the chance.
Man City wrap up deal for midfield wonderkid – Report
Man City wrap up deal for midfield wonderkid – ReportManchester City Move for Cavan Sullivan Takes Shape as 2028 Plan Hinges on FFP CaseManchester City have moved into position over Cavan Sullivan, with the teenage midfielder’s long-term future increasingly aligned to the City Football Group project, according to TeamTalk. The understanding is that extensive talks have taken place with the player’s camp and, while the move is not expected to be completed until January 2028, confidence around the arrangement is growing.
The key detail in this developing story is straightforward. City are described as being “delighted with the progress of teenage sensation Cavan Sullivan” and the move to the Etihad Stadium is “now considered a done deal”. That is a significant position to reach when clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid have also held discussions over a player widely viewed as one of the leading young talents in the game.
Sullivan, still only 17, has attracted heavyweight interest for understandable reasons. The report states that he has “committed himself to City Football Group (CFG)”, a notable vote of confidence in the network and in the pathway put in front of him. City, for their part, appear to have placed considerable emphasis on the clarity of that route, with “spoken at length with Sullivan’s representatives about his development and the pathway mapped out for him once he makes the move to England.”
Cavan Sullivan pathway points to long-term Manchester City planningThere is no suggestion of City treating this as a speculative youth capture. The planning sounds deliberate and layered, shaped around the player’s progression over the next few years. TEAMtalk reports that Sullivan is “currently scheduled to move to England in January 2028”, which leaves a substantial period for further development before any major transition into European football.
That timeline matters because it allows City to monitor growth, manage expectation and retain flexibility. It also reflects how elite clubs increasingly handle top-level teenage talent, especially when there are legal, regulatory and sporting variables still in play. In Sullivan’s case, the major variable is Manchester City’s fight against allegations relating to Premier League financial rules.
The report says the club “are maintaining their innocence” and that they “could take the battle to clear their name all the way to the High Court”. That uncertainty has plainly fed into the background of conversations around Sullivan’s future. City may believe their position is strong, but prudent planning has still been necessary.
FFP case creates complication around Etihad arrivalThe most striking aspect of the report is the contingency thinking. TEAMtalk says “the uncertainty surrounding that case has introduced a potential complication into City’s longer-term planning” and that CFG have already discussed fallback options with the player’s camp. This is where the wider strength of the group structure becomes relevant.
Sources indicate that “should any circumstances prevent or inhibit a move to Manchester City” there would be alternative solutions, with “a multi-year transfer ban” floated as one possible punishment City could face. In that scenario, the proposed answer would be a loan arrangement, potentially within the City Football Group network or at another club suited to his development.
That degree of preparation will be reassuring to those around Sullivan. Elite prospects and their families want certainty, or as much of it as can reasonably exist in football. The possibility of placing him elsewhere on loan, while preserving the longer-term City plan, gives the project resilience.
It also underlines how highly City rate him. The report adds that “securing Sullivan’s long-term commitment represents an important step in their efforts to bring one of the world’s most exciting young prospects into their system.” Those words are not accidental. Nor is the repeated reference to City being “delighted” and “hugely encouraged” by his development.
City Football Group model could prove decisiveWhat stands out is the advantage City believe they hold through CFG. Barcelona and Real Madrid may offer prestige and history, but the City pitch appears rooted in structure, planning and opportunity. TEAMtalk notes that “CFG’s extensive network of clubs could prove valuable” if circumstances change before 2028, and that may prove one of the decisive factors in keeping Sullivan aligned with this project.
The story also hints at a broader strategy in the US market. Sources “revealed on Monday that Sullivan is not the only USA prospect that City have their eyes on”, with a teenage Borussia Dortmund winger also being monitored. That broadens the context and suggests City are continuing to scan aggressively for elite youth talent, even while legal uncertainty remains around the club.
For now, the headline is that the Sullivan plan remains active and advanced. A move may still be years away, but the agreement in principle appears strong, the pathway has been discussed in detail and contingency measures are already part of the conversation. In a market where elite teenagers can be pulled in several directions, that level of preparation often tells its own story.
Our ViewThis feels like smart work, and exactly the sort of long-term planning that should still be happening regardless of the noise around the club. If Sullivan is as highly regarded as this report suggests, getting him aligned with the City Football Group that early is a major win. The line that the move is “now considered a done deal” jumps off the page, especially with Barcelona and Real Madrid involved.
What is particularly interesting is the fallback planning. There is calm in that. Rather than letting uncertainty around the case derail recruitment, there seems to be a structured answer already discussed. If there is any disruption down the line, a loan route through the CFG network still keeps the player within the system, still progressing, still connected to the original vision. That is exactly how a modern super-club should operate.
There is also something reassuring in the repeated emphasis on development. This does not read like a vanity signing or a race for headlines. It reads like patient succession planning. The best young players want a route, not just a badge, and City seem to be selling that convincingly.
If this lands as expected, it could look very shrewd by 2028. There is a long way to go, of course, but this report gives the impression of a club still planning from a position of confidence. That matters.
Auburn linebacker Xavier Atkins is no longer with the program and plans to transfer
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn standout linebacker Xavier Atkins is no longer with the program.
Atkins made the announcement late Monday on social media, saying he plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens later this year. The Tigers have since removed Atkins from their online roster.
“I have nothing but respect Auburn University and will continue to support my teammates this season," Atkins posted on X. “My focus is on my health, my family and on finishing up the academic semester strong, and I’ll be entering the transfer portal at the appropriate time.”
Atkins sat out last week's upset of then-No. 1 Georgia for undisclosed reasons, with coach Alex Golesh saying he would keep the details “in house.”
Golesh offered no update on Atkins on Monday other than saying they are “still working through it."
Atkins earned second-team All-America honors after a breakout sophomore season in 2025. In five games this season, he has 37 tackles, including three sacks, and an interception.
Without Atkins, sophomore Bryce Deas and junior De’Marcus Riddick are expected to take on larger roles alongside Elijah Melendez.

Heisman Trophy Leaders At Halftime Of The College Football Season

IOWA CITY, IA - OCTOBER 3: Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith #4 of the Ohio State Buckeyes goes up the field in the first half against defensive back Zach Lutmer # 6 of the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium on October 3, 2026 in Iowa City, Iowa. (Photo by Matthew Holst/Getty Images)
Getty ImagesWe are halfway through the college football season so it’s time to take a look at the Heisman Trophy race.
Boy, a lot has changed since the preseason. New names, new odds and a whole bunch of uncertainty in this race. Let’s talk who’s in, who’s out and what has to be done to make it to New York City and lift the statue of the man doing the stiffarm (his name was Ed Smith, by the way).
Current odds from Caesars Sportsbook.
Jeremiah Smith WR, Ohio StateI didn’t mention him in the preseason story because I thought there were too many quarterbacks for him to jump. Well, he’s jumped all of them. Smith is the best player in America and it might not be close. Injuries and poor play (cough, cough, Arch Manning) from some of the favorites have cleared the path.
The odds: Smith is the favorite at -125 and he’s trending up.
How can he win? It’s pretty simple really. Catch everything that’s thrown his way and continue to make opposing secondaries look like fools. His starting quarterback is hurt and will be out for a bit. Backup Luke Fahey will be tasked with getting Smith as many looks as Julian Sayin did. If he does that, Smith wins the Heisman.

WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA - SEPTEMBER 18: Darian Mensah #10 of the Miami Hurricanes celebrates following a touchdown pass during the first half of the game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium on September 18, 2026 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. (Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)
Getty ImagesDarian Mensah QB, MiamiMensah has been nearly flawless all season long. He finally threw an interception in that crazy game against Florida State but before that was as “perfect” as a quarterback could be. Mensah has an ace wide receiver of his own in Malachi Toney. Look for both of them to put up numbers for the rest of the year.
The odds: Mensah is the second favorite at +325.
How can he win? Mensah’s Heisman moment will arrive on Nov. 7 when the Hurricanes play Notre Dame. Playoff seeding will be at stake and a national audience will be watching. BYU proved Notre Dame’s defense can be exploited. Mensah could have the game of his life. He’ll will need it to win the big trophy.

PROVO UT - NOVEMBER 29: Bear Bachmeier #47 of the Brigham Young Cougars is sacked by Evan Johnson #0 of the University of Central Florida Knights during the first half of their game at LaVell Edwards Stadium on November 29, 2025 in Provo, Utah. (Photo by Chris Gardner/Getty Images)
Getty ImagesBear Bachmeier QB, BYUHe’s the definition of playing your way into the conversation, the Bear looked and played like a QB1 late against the Irish Saturday night. Unmoved by the moment,
Bachmeier took his team national and now are the No. 2 team in the country. He’s a longshot but what a story.
The odds: Great value bet at +2500.
How can he win? He must win out. He must put up great stats. BYU needs to win the Big 12 (unfair but true). It wouldn’t hurt if a few guys above him struggled mightily from here on out.

FORT COLLINS, COLORADO - OCTOBER 3: Jesse Legree #12 of the Oregon State Beavers runs after a catch before scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Colorado State Rams at Canvas Stadium on October 3, 2026 in Fort Collins, Colorado. (Photo by Dustin Bradford/Getty Images)
Getty ImagesJesse LeGree WR, Oregon StateCue the majority of you saying, Who? Get familiar with this young man and quick. He has 46 catches for 1,040 yards in seven games. He averages 148 yards per game receiving. He has 14 touchdowns. Oh, and he’s a freshman.
The odds: a longshot at +2500
How can he win? Honestly, you can’t ask him to do more than he’s doing. Six and a half receptions for 148 yards and a couple of touchdowns a game should stand on its own. Maybe if he was the kicker also? The kid is an insane talent and unfortunately for Oregon State we could see LeGree in a Power Four uniform next season. If that happens we’ll have him back on this list next year. You heard it here first.

STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA - OCTOBER 10: Quarterback Drew Mestemaker #17 of the Oklahoma State Cowboys throws a pass before a game against the UCF Knights at Boone Pickens Stadium on October 10, 2026 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. (Photo by Brian Bahr/Getty Images)
Getty ImagesDrew Mestemaker QB, Oklahoma StateAll year long Mestemaker has been making a case to be the first quarterback drafted next year. After a terrible loss to Tulsa to open the year Mestemaker set the Cowboys on a four game win streak snapped Saturday against a very good Houston Cougars squad. He put up great stats in the loss. He’s turned the program around. He needs a big push to win the Heisman.
The odds: +5000. This will drop get in on it now.
How can he win? Pile up numbers on a soft(ish) remaking schedule. There’s a big one against Texas Tech on November 14th. It’s make or break on that date.
Trending upTrinidad Chambliss, QB Ole Miss +625. The Florida game was a bump in the road.
Malachi Toney, WR Miami +2500. Needs to level up just a little.
Conner Weigman, QB Houston +7500. A little too far off the radar.
Julian Sayin
Dante Moore
Arch Manning
Keep an eye on
CJ Carr
Gunner Stockton
The prediction is Jeremiah Smith over Drew Mestemaker and Darian Mensah. Smith may have gained enough equity to absorb a drop in production because of his quarterback situation. If his production falls off the map, it becomes a race.

Burnley go a year without a home league win
Burnley go a year without a home league winAfter finishing second from bottom in the Premier League last season, Burnley are struggling to find their feet back in the Championship and already face the prospect of a second successive relegation.
Their miserable run continued this weekend with another defeat, extending their wait for a home league win to a full year.
The Clarets were beaten by Wolves, a result that took their winless run at Turf Moor to 365 days in league football.
The drought began during Burnley’s final season in the Premier League, when they went 15 consecutive home matches without a victory. That run carried over into the new campaign, although the Clarets managed to avoid defeat in their first six home games of the Championship season.
Over the past year, Burnley have played 21 league matches at Turf Moor, drawing 10 and losing the other 11. Their last home league victory came on 18 October 2025, when they beat Leeds United in the eighth round of the Premier League.
There is, however, a distinction worth making: the unwanted record applies only to league matches in England’s top two divisions. Burnley did manage a home win over Millwall in the FA Cup in January, before suffering another home defeat in the competition against third-tier Mansfield Town. They also drew with Notts County in the Carabao Cup this season.
Burnley already looking over their shouldersTheir struggles at Turf Moor have added to growing concerns about Burnley’s league position, with the club already in danger of being dragged into another relegation battle.
After 11 Championship matches, the Clarets have managed just one win - a convincing victory over Watford.
Beyond that result, Burnley have recorded five draws and five defeats. They have been stuck in the bottom three since the opening day and sit 22nd on eight points, ahead of only Derby County and Preston North End.
The poor start has inevitably raised questions about Nicky Hayen, who arrived at the beginning of the season for his first job in English football. So far, the Belgian has been unable to turn things around, with Burnley still searching for consistency and confidence.
With results showing little sign of improving, the Clarets have plenty of work to do if they are to avoid turning a difficult campaign into another relegation fight.
Pete Golding talks Texas, bad luck and the elite Arch Manning
AUSTIN, TEXAS - OCTOBER 17: Arch Manning #16 of the Texas Longhorns throws a pass in the second half against the Florida Gators at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on October 17, 2026 in Austin, Texas. (Photo by Tim Warner/Getty Images) | Getty Images Pete Golding used the word “elite” and “bad luck” to describe the Texas team his Ole Miss Rebels will face on Saturday during his Monday local press conference.
There was a lot of coachspeak as would be expected before a top 25 football game especially with the Rebels traveling to Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium this week. Golding and his team expect a very high level atmosphere and intensity from the Longhorn faithful given the stakes of this game featuring playoff contenders looking to avoid another regular season loss.
Golding emphasized Texas has the massive quality win over Ohio State, has the former number one ranking pedigree and an elite quarterback in Arch Manning, He said the Longhorns have just had some bad luck, some timely drops and with one of the best playcallers in the game in its head coach Steve Sarkisian, are one of the best teams in the country.
To prepare for Texas, the first year head coach said his defense has to stay ahead of the chains on defense and get the Longhorns in obvious passing downs to have an advantage and provide a chance to win. He said he fully expects Sarkisian to establish the run game first and foremost to set up play-action pass on Saturday.
On the injury front, the ongoing management of Kewan Lacy’s shoulder injury and cycling in Makhi Frazier and JT Lindsey will continue for this week. Lacy, a Texas native, grew up a fan of the Longhorns and wanted to play this week and get back on the field again, Golding said.
Ole Miss and Texas will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday and will be broadcast live on ABC.
